I've been trying to find some threads that I read before on D2 wheel bearings/replacing, and can't for the life of me find them using the search.
If any one can point me to a link or key word it would be muchly appreciated.

Yep, one unit and you'll need the nut too. 490Nm, so lots of elbow grease required.

You can buy the hub without the ABS sensor though, so you can save a few $'s

Yep, but I remember reading a thread about buying just the bearing and being able to press them into the outer bit.

See here: Hub and Wheel Bearing Replacement (Range Rover 4.0/4.6/P38) (http://rangerovers.net/repairdetails/drivetrain/hubs.html)

From my understanding the bearing that is replaced is the outer and you can't replace the inner bearing as it's sealed, so if one needs replacing, so should the other.

I'm pretty sure that's the case for all new vehicles now, the whole hub is supposed to be replaced.

Baz.

I'll check what bearings are in a D2 hub I have. I think they are very similar to the P38A which can be repaired although LR won't sell you the bearings.

I have just replaced my LH rear hub after bending the flange. (don't ask)

I was at Grahame Coopers in Sydney and he gave me an old HUB as I only wanted to replace my flange (assumed bearings OK). He didn't think the bearings could be replaced and was confident I would be back for a new one shortly.

I pulled the spare hub apart easy enough, but it is not the same as the Rangie. Firstly the outer races are part of the casting and are heat treated. Secondly, one of the inner races (inboard) has an extended area with the teeth for the ABS pickup. Yes, you can pull it apart and if the outer races are fine, replace the bearings, but only if you can source the bearing. As the inboard bearing is unique it may be hard.

I went back and bought a new one with ABS sensor and fitted it easliy.
($450 approx?)

Note, I had to get a 3/4 inch rattle gun to get the axle nut off. In the process I bent my 1/2" breaker bar; snapped a 3/4 to 1/2 adaptor and bent a 3/4 T bar.

I might have some photos kicking around if you ae interested.

Photos would be good.
It sounds like it was an interesting exercise.

I haven't forgotten you. I shall try to find the photos of the pulled apart hub this weekend.

A close look at the LR genuine wheel bearing hub, I can see that it's an OEM from Timken.

However, I've not found anyway of repairing a failed bearing hub. It seems that these are "sealed for life" products and the repair process is simply to replace. :(

Has anyone found a way of repairing old Discovery II wheel bearing hubs, perhaps even something simple like a strip and regrease?
