Well looks like our XR6 will be no longer after a rather nasty accident I was in this evening. If anyone knows Mudgeeraba Rd, where the lights are an the shops at end of Tallai Rd, if you were delayed this evening...that was me :(. I was heading northbound and a council Hilux decided to cross over double lines to go in an entry into the shops clearly marked NO RIGHT TURN..NO ENTRY. I had Kurt, my stepson in the car with me and slammed on the brakes. We TBoned the Hilux and sent it into the air and it spun around and ended up in the embankment. Fire engines, Ambos and police turned up, it was a no brainer, as for the XR6 it was nailed nothing left at the front. Bonnet up over the windscreen, pretty bloody awful. Airbags didnt even deploy?? Thankfully nobody was hurt. The council bloke said he was heading to a call for about an aggressive dog somewhere hence the reason for the illegal turn that could have been much worse for us had he hit us.

Now of course this has to happen when my D2 is on the other side of Brissie having warranty repairs, the one time I leave my wallet at home and when the breathalyzer comes out, panic thinking have I had a beer, luckily I had only had half a beer and all was good. Also great was the people who arrived at the accident and the bloke who stopped and waited till the firies, ambo, police etc arrived as the Hilux was behind him and said if I needed anything to let him know. To his credit the guy who caused the accident was the first to tap on the window to see if we were alright. Also thanks to Mick who has offered to help me out with getting to Brissie tomorrow.

Here is the clear sign:

Here is a pretty crap pic of what the Ford looked like:

Anyway am now enjoying a few coldies and ciggies to get over the shock

Glad you are both ok, good that it was a council vehicle, at least you wont have trouble with their insurance company, hopefully.....
we have had two incidents, MVA in the last two months with people who are mongrels with no insurance, we claim on ours then these rats use lawyers to present us with demands for money..... lucky we have good insurance and they have sorted it out quickly with no problems...
cheers

Thanks all, have woken feeling pretty sore, kids are happy...no school today....as no cars in the driveway :). Will see if I can take some pics this arvo as have to get things out of the boot of the car as they cut all power on the car for safety reasons. I think we were pretty lucky on this one,

Stevo

P.S. FL2 or new XR6 would be nice, but more likely get something a little more reasonable...we will see though :D

i have a spare pushbike if you need wheels Interesting you say that, as the cop asked me if I saw it was a council vehicle....my terse response was all I saw was a Hilux pulling out in front of me....I wasnt looking to see what sort of info it might have had on the vehicle, more like braking to save mine and my stepsons life. What was worst he turned a good 10 plus metres before the illegal entry anyway, he would have had to travel down wrong side of road to enter:mad:. He knew straight away he was wrong, he could have taken 2 x lives over the fact there was an aggresive dog somewhere....guess they never got to it,

Good to see you are both OK, Steve. Bloody scary.

What is of concern is that the airbags didn't fire. (I can't see pics here at work so I don't know bad it looks.)

The emergency services people on the scene said they should have due to the impact. The XR6 did punt the Hilux in the air and at least 10 plus metres, so was a fair whack.

Can council vehicles break road rules in QLD, if thats the case what is stopping the drivers from driving around at breakneck speeds or with a high BAC?

I can see emergency services having the ability to bend rules for their own benifit but not a council ute.

Good to see all involved in the accident got out uninjured

Well went and got personal belongings from car and took some snaps. They are unsure whether it is repairable or will be a write off, basically it is hinging on the chassis and whether damage was done to the engine. They won't know until they get the front removed....am pretty ticked ( insert appropriate extreme language) off now , negligent driving on the council bloke...driving a council vehicle...no inconvenience. Will be going to doctors on weekend as not feeling crash hot:

hope you're ok firstly. for the sake of your health and any potential injuries/side-effects, get checked out asap. also not being checked over by a doc within a "resonable" time-frame leaves too many open doors for the insurance company to leave through in case of any compensation/medical bills. i have worked in insurance, but please dont take my advice as anything other than my personal opinion.

the engine seems to be sitting square on its mounts. its just that left front rail that i guess will be the decider as you mentioned. have u had a chance to look under it yourself?

Yep, I agree, going Saturday as neck, chest and some other funny feelings are happening, so will get sorted then. No, didnt look under vehicle and to be honest would be a waste of time with me....I wouldnt have a clue what to look for :). Where it has crunched into the engine at the front, they dont know what sort of damage has taken place there....Im keeping my fingers crossed there is some damage as they wont replace the engine. Will know Mon/ Tues,

well if it was me, i'd be hoping to get the nod for new car shopping soon :) thats a ba, if i'm correct? are u with one of the companies that do new for old replacement? my old company only did 1yr, but i know that a couple now do 4. anyhoo, if u do look under the car, just check for what looks like a chassis rail thats been fibreglassed/embedded into the bottom of the floor/firewall and runs along the underside of the car. if its creased/cracked(likely near the front wheel), there's your answer.

Hey Stevo,

I've just found the thread and thank goodness that everyone is O.K..

Yeah, your prang leaves mine in the shade. What a mess. What an idiot of a council worker.

On a positive note, that's prang number 3 for our club members, so for those of us who may be a little superstitious, that should spell the end of the spate of accidents.

Here's hoping anyway.

I hope for your sake that the vehicle is repairable. I too know what it's like to have one written off, and then go through the awesome expense of having to purchase another vehicle.

As for having to go to Brisbane for warranty repairs, can't Rick carry those out under the terms of your warranty policy?

Cheers

Disco2 Thanks mate, though in this case we want it written off as it is insured for $27 and we owe $16, so would work in our favour. The warranty repairs were under the dealers statutory warranty so had to be carried out on their premise. I now have excellent aircon and the front shaft has been replaced...so all good :),

Steve, sorry for the vague wording in my earlier post. i meant if your insurance company offers new for old replacement. places like qbe and i think its aami or sgic offer 4 or 5 years. others offer 1yr. have alook thru ur policy to see. 27k is a great agreed value for a ba na xr6. good luck, whichever way it goes.
