I have a Pointer (GSP). For those who have never owned pointers, they are a hunting dog born and breed. Unfortunately this means that left unattended they will harm wildlife.
This week mine has killed 2 snakes (each about 1m long) in the backyard. Here's some (rather ordinary) shots of the last one. I was hoping one of you may be more expert at identifying it (maybe Crump). I'm suspecting its a small King Brown as these are rather common up here, but it could simply be a tree snake too.
What ever it is I now have to work on a way of training her (my GSP) to point and bark at them and not approach. I like snakes and I don't want to see them killed any more than my dog getting bitten.

Yep, looks like a brown snake, seeing as your in the NT, may even be a Ingrams brown or a Mulga.

Thanks, that's what I think too now. Been looking at a number of pictures of brown snakes and the head is very distinctive. Rather venemous too :(
Talking to others around town, seems there has been a number of snakes spotted in the last week. Rather strange, don't usually see many.

Demansia papuensis, (dee-man-see-ahh pap-you-en-sis), no common name, but basically a member of the Black Whip snake tribe, just a large northern form.Venomous and considered dangerous, but unlikely to roll a healthy adult, but possibly a danger to your dogs and small children, no fatalitys have ever been attributed to this species.I've been nailed by the southern form and experienced mild nausea, pain and slight swelling at the bite site lasting a few days.

Hi Guys
Wouldn't it be nice if snakes had an ID plate like cars have, then you could simply look just next to the RHS eye and find out what type it is? :D :D
Diana
P.S. Is that an approved modification about 300mm from the tip of the tail?

Wasn't me I'd have got him rehomed back in the bush. But trying to tell my dog not to hunt things is near impossible:(
