Anybody know much about Google earth street pics????
Its possible I will star or am now staring on the net.
Had a Google vehicle come up the road I was grading, had a camera and sat nav stuff on the roof.
If anybody can post the footage please do.
The road I was working on was Bates Rd Williams WA 6391.
The vehicle then went thru our other job a few hundred meters up the road where we were awaiting a bitumen truck.
This was the intersection of the Pinjarra/Williams Road and the Williams/Darkan rd.
Im not able to get google earth but if somebody finds it see if you can post it please.
Unsure if they upload instantly or what.

It'll be a while until the Street view function is available in Oz. The pictures have to be stitched together, which I would imagine is no small job, then uploaded.
I believe there as also privacy issues here, with car number plates and faces having to be blanked out, although I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. :p
It is a pretty cool feature though - check out one of the larger cities in the states through Google Maps and click Street View to try it out.

My dinosaur is win98 so cant get google earth.
The vehicle had google earth or similar on the door, the camera was on a staff on the roof, aprox 1m above the roof, apeared to have 6 or so lenses around the top.

I'm not sure if your boss will be impressed when he see you lounging back in the grader, boots up on the steering wheel, smoking a joint and sculling a four x lol :D

Google's Street View Car: Take a look at the vehicle that's looking at you! - Autoblog (http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/01/take-a-look-at-the-vehicle-thats-taking-a-look-at-you/)
Thsi seems to be the camera they will use everywhere.

A few years ago I was reading an article about the history of the Space Shuttle. You older ones may remember that when the first shuttle was launched, it lost some heat tiles off the nose. NASA got it to do a flip and face a Spy Satellite so they could take photos and assess the damage. The satellite was KH11 (Key Hole 11). I think there were a total of 16 KH Satellites launched. KH11 was launched in 1969 and even then had the capability to photograph a number plate on earth! I wonder just what kind of street level resolution Google could already provide if it wanted / were allowed to.
Maybe I should get a job with google and survey the CSR, Kimberley, Simpson....... with the new roof mounted camera.

Hi Xavie
That US link wasnt what I saw,it was a straight up 1m pole on a TOJO??? SUV waste of time thing WITH EASTERN STATES REGO PLATES,BLOODY SPIES!!!
The camera head looked close to what I saw.
Looking forward to the footage as the road was real messy due to an incompetent lost staff member and LOTS of rain:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:

To see how it works, type this into Google Maps:
155 South Frontage Road, centerville, UT
The click on Street View and scroll around - it's a LR dealer in Salt lake City, Utah, USA.
I know as it was one of the first things I looked for recently when I was asked by my company if I'd be interested in working in Salt Lake City

I think it's supposed to go live for Australia later this year.
These shots are all taken using cameras mounted on a vehicle and stitched together.
I check on it every now and again for the U.S. It's expanding rapidly.
