Where to stick it...

After lots of searching as to what's the best EBC I went and bought a
Tekonsha P3. Now I've got it, I need to work out where to put it in
the D2.

Initially I'd thought I'd be able to fit it next to the driver's A
piller. Doesn't seem to fit there so I'm now open to other suggestions.

Can anyone recommend a good spot? I know I'll end up spending an hour
or so in the cab trying it blu-tac'd to various places before I get it
right.

Ive fitted my Prodigy to the top of the dash.
I also wanted to put mine at the A pillar.
Bored a hole into the dash for the cables to go into the rubber indent on the centre dash,once thru there its easy to run the cables out of sight.
Will try and post pics 2morrow!!!

Derek,

Our EBC is mounted on the LHS of the main fold down cover under the steering wheel. Located here it is in easy reach to manually activate the brakes but does not interfere with knees. (It also has good access to the relevant wiring)

Note that if the controller is a pendulum type then it needs to be mounted in the correct plane, ie not side on. This and the manual activation, would limit the possible locations.

Hope this helps with the first spot of blu-tac.

It cant go any closer to the right without all the wires looking ugly.The wireless is basically the limit to make the wires go straight into the cavity below.The airvent prevents it to the right.

I've been thinking where to put the P3 and one advantage over the Prodigy is it can be mounted upto 90 degrees from horizontal as long as it is level and in line with the vehicle. This means the kick panel is OK. I'd assumed you had it mounted closer to the binnicle, but now I see why its over further. I had thought if I removed the instrument cowel I could pass the wires in there. Anyway I'm going to work things out on the weekend and will post pics when done.

I mounted my Prodigy on the LHS of the instrument binnacle between it and the A pillar and run the cables down through the gap in the dash/pillar corner with some split conduit around them and they are hardly noticed.

I also used self adhesive velcro for the bracket rather than screws through the dash and it went through the QLD outback and 18 months so without moving.

Well I got around to the installing the P3 today. I ended up putting it on the kick panel above the "screw" on the LHS of the steering wheel that opens the panel. Ran the wires down through the OBD socket's opening. I've moved the OBD port so that it sits inside the kick panel (easier to get to). The P3 harness I terminated in a 4 pin plug so I can pull the whole lot out. I've taken the red wire from there and spliced in to the GP wire off the brake peddle switch. I've then run the white wire to the earth point that has the -ve lead on it, the black wire to the +ve terminal in the engine compartment fuse box and the blue wire down under the car (in conduit) to the trailer socket as this was easier than running it internal.

Unit comes on when the brake peddle is touched and stays on for 15 minutes before powering down to a standby mode. I was worried about this as it comes directly off the battery and has no off button. The instructions are a bit vague on this. Won't get to test it out until I get my Kamper in July so at present if I play with anything I get a big flashing red symbol to signify no trailer connected.

Let me know how you go with yours.
Mine stays blank unless I actualy manually operate the brakes to wake it up.UNSURE if its still doing its job with no display.
No display to say they are working when the pedal is used.Havent had chance to reall get into it,see if you find similar.
The brakes are working OR DRAGING as they get warm after test braking.
Hoping the Nanocom unit when it finally turns up fits next to the EBC

one of the reasons I went with the AccuTrac,, it DOES fit nicely in the gap between the pillar and the binnacle,, and its still made by Tekonsha;).
mounted with double sided velcro, wires disappear down the corner,,

I recalled seeing this post and now that I have the D2, as of today the task of where to put it! Well I ended up putting the protogy controller inside the centre console compartment box. Given the lack of room and the use only being about 3 times a year for the van, it worked out okay, so it sits vertical on front side wall so only have to have the box open for setting for particular journey. I used the removable caddy and it can sit pround by about 6 or so mil given the recess in the lid itself.

So I can't use the panic stop, but then again, if its that bad I found hanging onto the steering wheel, brake and anything else worth grabbing with a few hail mary's is better for stopping.

Well I've installed my EBC.

As you can see from picture it isn't the Tekonsha P3. After a lot of stuffing around I suspect I've got a dud so I went and bought a nice simple RedArc EB1AX-RH. The RH is a new varient - Remote Head:D - which has the controls available to install anywhere.

This was a really easy installation. I already had a momentary (non-latching type) bincle switch from when I installed spotties and needed the #2 aux light switch facia. SO I took this switch and wired it as the panic button in place of the one provided, bit of the wife's red nail polish to highlight it. The LED for trailer connected and the braking force dial are on the kick panel. The unit itself is silastic'd to the kick panel. Very happy with the install, now all I need is my trailer in 3 weeks time:).

I have a Uniden UHF mounted in the gap in the overhead console the visors fold up to. I have pop riveted the mount for the EBC onto the base of the UHF and mounted it to that.
