Diesel Fumes

Why do the fumes out of my exhaust smell prettier than those out of a Jap diesel? :P

do u have a catalytic converter? my 02 disco td5 did and now that it has somehow gone:wasntme: my exhaust has that nicer/more conventional diesel smell too.
