Hi guys/gals;
can someone please tell me:
can the "Y" piece ejector (P/N ESR2348) be replaced with a simple "T" plumbing fitting ???
(the "Y" piece is between the expansion tank, the radiator & the thermostat housing)
... and...does anybody have experience of any downside to this ???
............thanks - Laurie:)

There's actually 2 types of radiator hoses, one with a plastic Y piece and one without. http://www.aulro.com/afvb/general-chat/37528-expedition-style-hoses-300tdi.html#post531502

thanks, but it's actually the thermostat hsg to expansion tank hose I'm asking about, not the radiator hose..

This weekend I replaced the 5/16 and 3/8 hose you are talking about.
I have a TDI 1994 defender 130.
I was wondering what the plastic thing was jointing the hose from the thermostat housing ,the radiator and the header tank.
It appears the plastic thing is hollow and appears to serve only the function of a Y or T piece.
I wonder why the factory fitted the plastic fitting the shape it is ?

Yes, thanks Ron,
we were wondering if the plastic "Y" piece had a non-return function to specifically not allow flow back from the thermostat housing to the expansion (header) tank........

I used to wonder if it was a check valve (NRV) too, but you could blow through both ways when I replaced mine (as a precaution)
it's just a bleed.

Just discovered the plastic "Y" piece was weeping coolant on my Defender 300tdi. However, I'm not having much success tracking down an alternative to the oem (that comes with all the hoses). I only need the "Y" piece as I replaced the hoses about 12 months ago.
Has anyone found an alternative Y or T piece fitting??

go to pirtek or enzed or the like and get a brass t or y-piece to fit.

its y shaped to help with the bleeding system... works kind of on the venturi system...
It doesnt HAVE to be a y junction if you bleed up properly but it does help the bleeding process.

yep get a brass one........i didn't know there was a one way check valve in it......much better not having the check valve as it makes it much easier to bleed the cooling system

Thanks fellas.
Went to Pirtek as suggested and found a 3/8" brass Y piece [$10]. Took some pressure to push the 5/16" hoses on, but on they went!!
That should be another permanent solution.

This thread came up when I did a frantic smartphone Google search inside Masters. My brand spanker ejector pump started leaking at the seam en route.
Managed to find a 3/8" brass Y, $12.50. Hope it isn't too hard to push on which I shall be doing first thing in the morning.
