Engine No. Location on a P76 4.4

Gang,

I have picked up a nice 1985 RR with a 4.4 in it.

But I cannot find the engine no. on the block. I have the engine no. on the label but the RWC man and Vic Roads will want to see it on the block.

It appear to have 3.5 LR heads on it and I cannot see it in the usual spot on LR motors of in the gap of the LHS side manifold.

Any ideas before I get the punch set out?

I seem to recall it is on the rear of the engine on the bell housing mounting face. I assume the LHS but I don't know.

have a look next to the oil dip stick or the fire wall end of the pasanger side bank,(on the back of the motor)

What he said - Engine bellhousing, passenger side. Unfortunately it is very difficuly to see when fitted in a rangie. Get a torch (and maybe a mirror), and see how you go.

The flange where the number is stamped on 3.5's isn't present on 4.4's either.

I'm getting a P76 2 door ready for rego, I know the engine number is there somewhere, and have doco to show what it is supposed to be, but be blowed if I can see it, I suppose the Vic Roads mob will have toys so they can verify.?

Will degrease area well...for their enjoyment...

I had a really good look last night for the no. and bucket if I could it. I had the torch and mirror everywhere but could see anything that looked like a no.

I think I will just dymo tape it on the front of the block. :o Vic Roads are so smart they would probably be happy with the firing order or the air cleaner part number.

They are very hard to read in a rangie , The early classics are easier to see than the latter ones , I put a 4.4 in a 86 and it was very difficult to see due to all the crap under the bonnet

When one of my cars was converted to LPG for the previous owner, the installer put a casting number down as the engine number.
