Went for a ride with my 13yo son yesterday along the 6.5km MTB track which the local cycle club has been building over the last 6-8mths in some council designated land/reserve. (In actual fact its part of an old disused garbage tip which is being returned to native bush albeit with all the scarrs of the previous use of bulldozers etc etc - hardly a 'pretty site').. We rode one circuit of the track and went back for second. During that 40 or so minutes it took to do the first a 'nice lady' and her 2 adolescent children had ripped off some of the track indicator signage paid for and put up by the cycle club, strung string across the track at head hight, shifted dozens of old tree roots, trunks, rocks into piles on the track etc etc and generally wrecked passage along the track. I rode passed her and she claims the track will only attract motor cyclists, is damaging the environment, is attracting people from other districts to come and ride, is scaring the kangaroos off and damaging banksias, waratahs etc... Long and short other members of club also turned up (unplanned) and there was a bit of verbal toing and froeing... Some people think they own this world .... she considers herself saving the environment from those aweful mountain bikers yet becomes a self made policeman, throws out any credibility by shifting logs and rocks which as we all know are small creatures homes and then threatens the safety of riders along this track... grrrrrrrrr :mad::mad::mad:

what you do is strategically wait till shes just finished shifting a log onto the track, is just walking off then do a bike abandon off of it at about 40kph and plough into her stating that you had seen her and had picked a line to pass her but there was a log in the track that wasnt there 25 mins ago when you did your warm up lap.

Perhaps let her know she has won the council has decided to close the track..... snd reopen the tip as there is a lot of asbestos being removed from buildings and they don't want to bury it at the "active" tip for fear of the dust particles..... So how supportive she becomes of the track then!
This sort of thing gets my goat, it's like people that move near an airport and then complain about the noise!

Better yet, Sue the bitch:twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted:
You have a legal right to be there with your children, and she's endangering their health and safety.

These people give me the @%$**. I do heaps of MTBing around Melbourne (Youyangs and Lysterfield and other areas) and although there is hardly ever any problems you still strike the odd loony tune.
They live a mostly pathetic life, have little or no real knowledge of what they preach and are hypocrites.
Next time you see her, ask her apart from actually disturbing the area herslef, what else has she done for the planet, probably nothing. Most likely would be the type who is a 'do as i say, not what i do'.
Just like some of these global warming idiots who tell us to go green and turn of our lights and ride a bike and catch a train and blah blah blah .... then when they are finished they get a chauffer driven limo to the airport and fly to the next country to blah blah blah ...... idiots.

Like Roothy once said, (as best I can remember), "The difference between 4Wd'ers and Enviromentalists is that 4WD'ers are the ones out there doing somthing about their enviroment, and enviromentalists are the ones sitting at home complaining that something should be done."

As said earler putting string at head height is not on, definately worth a courtesy call to the police. Hopefully they'll watch out since this despicable act is a big issue still, (remember the little girl who rode into some wire at head height recently).

Easy on this one though, she may have driven there in her V8 Landy :D:D:D:D:wasntme::wasntme:

Yes we have all the photographic evidence and police may follow it up if we can identify the woman. I know her by sight and the car she drives - not by name... The president of the cycle club is following up - looks a messy time for a while....
The group goes by the name of WAM walkers against mountain bikes.

Sounds like a Pedestrian Council look alike.
Hope that no one gets injured as a result of such stupidity.
Putting logs across single tracks has also been happening on some single track I use to get back home via Churchill NP after riding in Lysterfield. Came across this stupid action on a night ride last Wed - lucky I spotted it on a downhill and jumped it.

Thanks everyone. I don't ride with the local club - no time as i'm usually at work but I've seen what a great facility and sport is emerging. Last weekend 59 riders competed and the sport is growing, healthy and in my mind has low environmental impact. It engenders good sportsmanship and friendship. The young kids that are now starting are really enthusiastic - better for them than sitting in front of the TV or xbox. To see this facility maligned and damaged is heart wrenching. Sorry to interrupt LR conversation....

What she was doing is illegal - simple as that. She was almost certainly in breach of the applicable Criminal Code, various environmental and land management laws and possibly local government regulations.
To make sure these people are prosecuted you need hard evidence. I usually carry a small digital camera and a phone. You take photos of them and what they have done, then call the police from the location and ask whether they want to come out. If they don't, ask who to email the photos to and where you can make a statement.
Any group with the word "Against" in its name is usually a hate group with a vigilante mentality and no real organisation. In a way they are handy, as you can use them to show that the people who oppose you are crackpots and criminals.
Up here in Brisbane, mountain biking is gaining acceptance and lots of trails are shared by walkers, horses and bikes. Many trails are officially sanctioned as MTB only. I can't help thinking that if it weren't for the fact that so many different interest groups want to enjoy the bush, most of it would quickly be bulldozed by developers.

What she has done is criminal and I would be insisting that the police follow it up. As a dirt bike rider have come across this several times and know of several people charged. A young guy was killed several years ago east of Perth by such a wire.
I believe everyone is entitled to enjoy their chosen pursuits as long as they act responsiblly. How could Mountain Bike riding be deemed offensive?
It annoys me when others think they can impose their thoughts onto others like this.

Isn't that attempted murder?

Isn't that attempted murder?
Probably (technically) not. But if she killed someone, she would likely go for manslaughter, which still attracts a life sentence.

Police have case 'in hand'. But somehow I don't think that will be the end of the vandalism to the track. My predictions will be: no more twine across track but heaps of roots, boulders.... this person is on a vendetta.

I have seen a few guys taken out with a wire.
if the wire contacts the upper chest it forces the body back until the wire rides up to the neck, slicing though usually just above the voice box, taking out the wind pipe and a couple of major arteries, as the body moves further back, the head sill wants to travel forward, the wire then cuts its way up behind the jaw, now the head whiplashes back to past 180 deg, the wire is lodged behind the jaw, ripping out the jaw and sometimes ripping the flesh of the victims face, cheeks and brow up to and into the hairline, where the skin is a bit thinner and tends to rip off the scalp at that point, some times the top lip and nose is left in place some times not. personally I think a vigilante response is warranted on sick people like this. Leaving stones rubble on the tack as a hindrance is one thing; string up a wire is attempted indiscriminate murder. No different to killing the first Chinese, black, white or Jew that you see. Only in this case its kill the first rider. Fortunately if some one was to attempt to kill the first Chinese, black, white or Jew, the cops would be all over it. But in this case I assume they don’t really give a toss.

Why not? It took thought and action, planing and intent = premeditated murder.
sorry not biting at you Dave, i assume it just hasint been argued that way before

Hi Clean32,
A decision re murder/manslaughter can only be decided in a criminal court on a case-by-case basis. Ad hoc interpretations have no basis.
