About 6k too much;):D:D
It won't be long before the LM Range Rovers are near that price.
Hmm, might have to keep my eyes on a few Td6's that come through.

They usually sell at dealer auctions in the region $7500- $9500. I did see one go at a (public) Classic and Prestige Auction for $14750 where two bidders who evidently wanted the car got into competition. They are not popular with dealers because of the general perception amongst dealers of their potential for expensive warranty problems.
Coincidentally, $14750 was my top bid at that auction for a 1967 Cadillac convertible, a really nice car. I would have kept going if it had been right hand drive. It sold for $17000.

A P38A isn't worth much, but either is Australia's top-selling car.
I've sold a VY Exec wagon today, 2003, 124,000km, for $11,500, and it's the only firm offer I've had oveer a month on the market for $12,900 ono. It's a neat, tidy car and cheap to run and reliable (why was I selling it again? Oh yes, to grow poor owning a Land Rover ;))

A good Disco 300Tdi is worth more than a P38A. I saw one go on eBay earlier this week for $8K and it had a heap of work recently done to it.
I'll be able to buy one for spares, soon.

Mind you, about 3 years ago I took from Ritters a '93 Classic then a '95 P38 out for a spin, the Classic won me over, for comfort and driveability, just couldnt afford the $18k at the time.
Happy with my D2 now...

I paid $30K for my (then) seven year old P38A six years ago. Don't ask how much since...

Now that would be worth it
I'd pay 15 - 20k for one.
I like the P38A, I still wouldn't buy one.

I'd say double the figure, plus servicing costs.

Well, the P38A's are selling wholesale for about 6% of their new price. Tidy 8-9 year old Commodores and Falcons go through auctions for $4000-$5000, Falcons usually less than similar Commodores. Expressed as a percentage of new price the family sedans are doing a lot better. For savage depreciation, Magnas hold the current title. Tidy 8-9 year old Magnas and derivatives fetch usually in the vicinity of $1000-$1500. Hyundai, Kia, Daewoo over 6-7 years old are virtually worthless, fetching scrap or wrecking prices as one would expect for cars selling new for $15000. Odd bods like Renault, Fiat, Citroen are usually purchased by fanatics, or specialist dealers/wreckers.

Fortunately not even equal to the purchase price - including fuel, servicing, accessories (bullbar, rear bar, UHF CB, etc), and repairs over the past 6 years/115,000km. Adding rego and insurance would push it over.

I think your going to be right about that soon too. However as drivesafe said this week at $32K for a new trannie and hard to get them rcond this makes me think that they will be shunned even more than what P38's are, when they get on in age. Not that P38's are that unsaleable, but I reckon these newer rangies will be.
Now I know I am going to get flamed for this for sure...

I was talking about my observations of prices paid at no reserve dealer only auctions. I regularly attend with a wrecker mate who has a dealer licence.

The trransmissions are now being rebuilt locally (A&B). It took a while for Land Rover to get up a supply of transmissions to rebuild for an exchange scheme which is why the only option, until recently, was a new transmission.
