Hi all,
I have lifted my new defender about 2 1/2 inches. I installed a DC shaft in the front which helped with some of the vibes however I still get some at about 65. I notice unlike the Td5 the rear drive shaft is also 'out of phase' and am wondering if it is the cause??
Has anyone else had any experience with this yet?

Yup,
I get the same vibration at 63kmh. (And lesser at 20 to 30kmh and then again at 90ish kmh). Nothing too bad but annoying all the same. (Usually more noticable in the overrun changing back from 5th to 4th)
I have standard suspension on my 90 although I have quite a bit of weight pulling the front down. (Winch, BBar etc.) I'm tolf the angle of the front prop shaft is the issue.
I have queried this since new with no luck. LR kept ducking the issue and couldn't address it. I am told by another LR mechanic (non dealer) that it is a "feature" of many td5s and he wouldn't worry about it.
I have (finally) learnt to live with it. Although I wonder what will happen when I finally upgrade the suspension.
Also - forgot to mention my previous defender ( 2001 - 110 ) didn't have this "feature"

You should be able to get rid of it. It should be easy enough to isolate whether the rear is the cause - just mark where the spline is now, rotate so it runss true & see what happens. If it doesn't work, just reassemble back to your marks.

Unfortunatley I can't just move the yoke around as the slip yoke only fits into the spline one way - will have to get it cut and rewelded!

Ah.
Another trick is to grab a handful of jubilee clamps, & screw these onto the propshafts. Align them of course, & force an imbalance. Go for a drive & see if any difference. Rotate them, move them, swap them rear to front, see if you can make it worse or better. Time consuming but cheap.
The expensive way is to throw the car on a 4WD dyno, but at least the problem can be found then & there.
May not be the propshafts of course. Justin C posted up something a few months ago, about the t/case flanges being the culprit, I think. It'd be worth searching for that thread.

Was the rear diff flange on a D2 that had the vibe issue due to distortion... I think that a DC joint propshaft should've fixed the problem, It has for me on a 2.5" to 3" lifted '02 110 Def.
I would be looking possibly for another culprit. Maybe check the rear shaft for damage, IE impact and dents etc??
The best thing is to remove 1 shaft and engage difflock, and test drive. That way you can eliminate the shaft causing the problem at least.

Have just been playing around for hours removing and fiddling with shafts. Turns out it is still the front d/c shaft that is causing the problem. I have had it balanced twice already but maybe I will have to pull the one (original d2) out of my brothers car and give that a go. Only hassle is that the new defender front shast is 65mm longer than the old one but hopefully there will be enough length in the spline to give it a go anyway. Will let you know!

f its a new defender you have as in the puma talk to xavie as he lifted his new one 2" and got all sorts of trouble becuase the car was all ready at its maxium angles...he too had to pay over a thousand dollars to rectify his props....
So my guess is that its the 2 1/2 inch lift and the angles that are the problem.
