Well now I'm confused, went down to local tyre dealer today to get some new 245/75 BFG AT's. Stepping up in tyre size from 235/70. (extra diff clearance) They advised that BFG don't make this tyre size in an AT.
I have a Tdi so I am concerned about putting 235/85's on with the extra load required to drive them and I am also occasionally pulling a van.
It appears that 70 series are the go and it was suggested a 245/70 or a 255/70. The 245/70 gives extra 14mm in diameter and the 255 more again. But I don't know what extra mods to the car need to be done with the extra width of the 255 tyre. I assume camel cut still required and spacers for the spare wheel, but what else.
What other options can anybody suggest, I know Coopers and Toyo still make a 245/75 or I could go to a Mud Tyre (which I'd love). Problem is for another 14months the car is mostly hers to carry kids to school, and other girlie stuff and only mine on weekends for some weekend and day trips with the mates. Also I'm not sure what mileage I can expect out of the M/Ts. The AT's have been really good with 100K on them. All be it the last trip in the high country has finished off the rears.
Suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I would think that the lack of tyre choice in 245/75 will impact on more than just me for the S1 owners.

I heard 245/75 in BFG AT are gone.

I run Cooper ATR in LT spec onroad and very happy with them. They come in 245/75.
If you can afford a spare set of rims with aggressive tyres on, it is a good way to go - if you intend holding on to the Disco for a while it's something to consider. Higher upfront outlay but the offroad set will last for many years, coz they're not worn out through round town running.
Swapping them over is not as bad as you might think - with a floor jack I do it in 30 - 40 min. ( depending on if I'm having a tinny at the time ).

I have just fitted 245/75 R16 Cooper STCs to my S1 Disco - performance on hills has been blunted slightly, but excellent wet and dry grip - better wet road grip than STs - and very good in the bush. I am expecting to get about 60000ks out of them.

245 or 255 /70 whichever is a better deal as there is bugger all between them, for spacers for the spare i used 3 spare wheel nuts in reverse to carry a 265/75 MT which gives me about 10mm space. Look at Kumho and others in the A/T range as well.

There are a few brands around like Nankangs who make a 215.85X16.
These have the same a dammit diameter to a 245.75x16 but are narrower so will give better lock and less interference, and less steering kickback
But they usually are not sexy to look at.
If you are pulling a van, a 245.75 will reduce your power by 5%. I find it quite noticeable with my 3.9 when I switch from 205s to 245.75.

Thanks guy's I have been toying with the 2nd set of tyres, but had just about thrown that idea out.
Been keeping an eye on ebay for another set of rims, they seem to pop quite regularly. If I went this way I'd only be up for 2 new BFG's for every day running around and I would stay with the 235/70's and then purchase 2nd set.
If I do upsize I would have to fork out for 5 tyres, and try and flog the 2 good tyres.

2nd set is gaining momentum, again. Nankang or Maxxis most likely the go.

The Maxxis 235x85x16 (just under 32") are @ $ 195.00 in Bob Jane and Tyres and More in Chelsea Heights.
I am very happy with the Buck Shots that I fitted in my Rangie 3.5. Very good on the highway as well. Just done Hobart to Moore Park.
Cheers
