early 2dr RR towing capacity?

just out of curiousity, does anyone know the towing capacity of a early 80's 2dr range rover?

Owner's handbook says 1,000 kg for unbraked 'off-road trailer' and 4,000 kg for 'road trailer with power brakes'.

i take it you dont rate the 3.5 very highly for towing something like a loaded car trailer?

all with a max ball weight of 250kg assuming that doesnt push the overall loading of the vehicle or rear axle over its limit.

the 3.5 tows fine if you dont mind revving its biscuts out and watching the fuel gauge go down really fast.

I would have said if you have a braked trailer it'll do the job, you just wont be braking the speed limit.

I towed a twin axel braked trailer with my 2 door RRC with another 2 door RRC on the trailer, (it might have been overweight? but it was a one off)

Anyhow it'll do the job if you aren't in a hurry but if you are expecting to tow your 2000kg racer on your gooseneck trailer and keep the speedo at 100 forget it.

hangover, the plan was for a gooseneck, but im running out of affordable/do-able options in the form of a ute, so i might have to go with a conventional car trailer and a half decent tow vehicle.....

failing that, i'll wait till a rough 100 series turbo cruiser comes in at work

I once towed a mates 180B on a big heavy tandem trailer with my old 81 rangie, i vowed never again ! a light 6x4 box trailer maybe but nothing else.
