Is there anything to 'chemically' assist removal of silicone without hurting plastic?
I'm shaving it patiently with a blade but it's an arkward spot.

Hi Dan,
I probably won't be able to help anyway, but these days there is no single product known as silicone (but MANY variations of it). It would help if you actually told us the product that you are trying to remove.
I guess that you are trying to remove it from auto trim. Further details on this would, also, be helpful.
I hope that someone here is able to help.
Best Wishes,

I don't know which one it is, only that it's clear.
The PO of my TDI has stuck some items to the console with it:(, I'm trying to tidy it up.

turps or petrol, silicone hates petrol, but i would use turps.
you will have to hope your plastic is ok with turps, but if its car plastic it should be ok.
just wet a rag and gently rub 'and rub

There is a product called Presol I think it is. Used by spray painters to clean a car/panels off before re-spraying. Works really good on silicone and oily marks.
Great to clean you car windows with too.

Try this,
Selleys Silicone Remover (http://www.selleys.com.au/Selleys-Silicone-Remover/default.aspx)
"Will discolour some plastics such as nylon, polypropylene, ABS and polystrene", The console is vinyl covered I think.
Do a test first....;)
