Ok so im looking to put some slightly wider tyres on the Defender. Nothing stupid but are looking at some Micky's in a 265/65/R16. Can anyone tell me if they will fit ok and if it will efect the articulating i.e scrubbing ect. Currently running the reccomended 235/85/16 on the old girl (94 TDI defender stock standard no lift or serious mods)
I know that cooper have an stt in the 235/85/16 should I go down that path.
so many decisions and no idea every tyre guy I talk to just tries to sell me what they have in stock and dont actually give a rats about what I need. Most cant even tell me if the Micky's will fit and the purests just tell me to go with the 235/85/16

Any pointers would help my aching head.

265/65-16 is a small tyre for the Defender. You'll find that 265/75-16 is pretty much the same diameter as the 235/85-16. There is generally a very minor difference of about 0.1" which is ignorable practically and legally.

AFAIK there are no issues with running this tyre. at worst maybe a light rub on steering lock on the front radius arms, but I doubt.

265-75-16 Mickeys will fit a 16x7 no worries...

The diameter is the same so no issues there either...

As for needing muddies, thats up to you!

Hi, I ran 265/75/16 tyres, (same diameter as 235/85/16), on my 110 with no problems. I even ran 33"x10.5"x16" simex extreme treckers with 1" offset rims and standard suspension.
