Sime Darby’s Land Rover (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd displayed its Land Rover Defender 6X4 Puma concept at the Defence Services Asia 2008 exhibition this month, and Land Rover Malaysia says the concept attracted a high level of interest from the Malaysian Armed Forces and numerous foreign visitors.
The Land Rover Defender 6X4 Puma Concept was developed in Malaysia by Land Rover Malaysia and Sasbilt Technologies Malaysia. It features a long wheelbase of 3302mm and the 6-wheeler can run on either 4 wheels (6X4) or all 6 wheels (6X6 mode) on rough terrain.
The long wheelbase enables the use of a custom body which can accommodate an electric generator in the rear compartment and a spacious cabin for radio and satellite equipment and at least four crew members. The cabin doors are wider to enable easy access and loading of radio equipment. A full-size antenna can be mounted on the roof for the 6X4 Puma Concept to be used as a VSAT satellite vehicle in the battlefield.
It is powered by Land Rover’s “Puma” 2.4 liter common rail turbodiesel engine. Depending on tuning, it can produce between 74hp to 135hp and between 185Nm to 285Nm of torque.

185nm seems a little low, even if it is the low end of the scale. But anyways, With a third diff, does that mean it would have a third prop shaft/third t,case ?? How does the set up worl?

depends on how they do the rear suspension.

with load sharing springs and good articulation you do it with a 3rd shaft running out of the Tcase or splitting the rear outputthrough a PTO type setup

the otherway of doing it if your not after huge articulation is with a power dividr over the top of the middle axle or using a second pinion off the back (not common but its been done)

nope its all about the gearing and the 2.4s got a turbo....

its power spec isnt all that far off of what the current in service 6x6's run so with some intellegent gear box and diff selection Id think it was still capable of cruising at 100Kph a reasonable climb and good offroad ability.

the r series mack we use only has 275HP and 1400odd nm but it still does 95 (engine govenor limit) with more than 50t mass on board and tow.

hell even a sereis rover will push up the dollar if you dont mind paying the fuel and noise bills.

interesting looking rig,
there's probably not much more stuff you could bolt on the outside to make it any heavier!
i guess they'll just have fill it with stuff.
as for suggesting the engine might be a bit small causing it to be slow, who on earth would want to go fast in that?
