I am about to change the lifters in my V8. I am not changing the cam shaft only the lifters. Any advise on doing this job would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Kev

not that hard, rocker cover off, valve gear off, intake manifold and valey cover off remove the rods and fish the lifters out.
soak the new ones in fresh engine oil while facing the right way up and prime them by compressing them with a pushrod before you put them in and your laughing. assembley is the reverse of dissasembley.

I know you have already stated this but I would be wary of changing lifters to resolve issues on a Rover V8.
No disrespect but you would want to have a specific reason to do so I hope we are not talking a Rover V8 thats done a couple of hundred thousand Ks that has noisy lifters if it is cut your losses and do cam chain and lifters.
If this is the scenario save your pennies and do it properly the first time.

Changing lifters without changing the cam might be construed as a waste of money.
See Replacing worn tappets and cams (hot link here-> RPi Engineering - V8 Engines (http://www.rpiv8.com/engine-4.htm#Replace_Cam_tap)
Don't forget to check the pre-load - mentioned just below the section I've linked above.

Agreed.
I read somewhere that they wear at 100,000km??

Thankyou very much for your advice guys, Ive checked out the site you advised and it looks like I will be doing the full job. The reasoning behind this is that I have one lifter tht has failed and the car has 190,000kms.

Don't be too quick to blame a "collapsed lifter" noise on the lifter itself
Check the rocker where the "ball" of the push rod fits into the rocker
Compare the depth of each one.
I had the same noise (loud TAP TAP) & ended up changing 6 bad rockers in one session
