Gday all.....iam very seriously looking at a 130 96 300Tdi dual cab but it had shocking driveline backlash/clunk....just wondering what could cause this ??
The bloke had the axles welded to the flanges so he said maxi drives wouldn't fix the clunk....is this true ??
Thanks Adrian

How long is a piece of string ? , Wont be cheap = gearbox out and a rebuild unless your handy with the tools and can do most of the work your self:cool:

Hi, It could be the gearbox output shaft/transfer box input gear as mentioned above. It may also pay to check:
The diff's, (all 3), for excessive play.
The uni joints and splines on both prop shafts.
The ball joint on the top of the rear diff.
All the points, (front and rear), where the trailing arms connect to the axles and chassis.
My (ex) 110 had the following things causing the drive line clunk:
The bolt holes on the rear axle where the rear trailing arms are fixed had elongated.
At one point the big nut on the end of one of the rear trailing arms had undone slightly.
Gearbox/transfer box output/input wear
Center diff spider gear shims had all but dissapeared.

What about the rest of the driveline?
Each element adds it's own little bit to the slop.
Cheers
