Done some work to my Series 3 LWB. Now sourcing parts.

Are these reasonable prices?

On Ebay
LANDROVER PARTS 2, 2A & 3 SWB. DRUMS, SHOES, CYL
2 BRAKE DRUMS

2 WHEEL CYLINDERS

4 BRAKE SHOES

$189 + $25 Postage.

Same for front or rears.

I would say reasonable rather than dramatically cheap.

Those are for a SWB landrover which has only 10"inch drum brakes, and you have a LWB Series 3 which has 11" inch drums with twin leading shoe front brakes with 2 front wheel cylinders each side, and the rears have 1 wheel cylinder each side, also the Series 2a/3 six(6) cylinder vehicle has 3"inch wide front drums and only the 4 cylinder Series 3 has 2 1/4 wide front drums, the price of the 11" drums are a lot higher than that of the 10's. but all those parts should be available.

The alternative approach, depending on the state of your drums is to take the bits to a brake shop and get replacement cylinders and shoes and have the drums skimmed. I've just done this for the front of my SWB Series 3 (which admittedly is a simpler system) and the cost was $145 for the front axle (ie 2 cylinders, 4 shoes and 2 drums). Of course if your drums have been skimmed to the max, this won't be an option.

New to Oz so still find my way about. Did locate a Clutch and Brake shop to do.So can ask about skimming. Both would front and backs should be ok for that. Although the rear shoe have somehow come adrift and worn the outside away. Prob need replacing. I will investigate further to find out. Was hoping to get seal kits as the Wheel cyls look ok. Local REPCO say they dont do them.

What about Shock Absorbers. Would that be something I can get doone locally?

You can get the drums skimmed if they are standard size, 11"inches they can be skimmed to 11 1/8"inches, the wheel cylinders can be stainless steel sleeved by a specialist brake repair coy. seeing that you are in Vic there will be somebody down that ay that should be able to guide you, or get a copy of "Restored Cars" magazine as there are plenty of specialist vehicle and brake restoring companies that advertise, most of them are in Vic, which is along way away for us Queenslanders:( there is also a specialist Vacc Booster restoration coy.

I would be inclined to take the drums and shoes to the Clutch and brake shop, and ask them about seal kits and resleeving the cylinders. There seems to have been a tendency in recent years not to replace seals, but to replace cylinders - probably a combination of labour cost and liability plus cheaper parts. In my experience seal kits work well provided the piston and cylinder are in good condition and you can maintain scrupulous cleanliness while doing them. But you are more likely to find the kits at a specialist brake place or a Landrover specialist supplier.

Another problem you may encounter is that as new faces come into the automotive industry, you get fewer and fewer people who can talk sensibly about drum brakes, or are even interested.

there is an ebay shock absorber bloke, whose prices are reasonable.
Just checked the link you put up is him, he is in Kempsey, just check out his online store.
I have bought some off him and they are fine have had no probs with them.

psss just remembered there is a clutch and brake place in wodonga that did have an ebay shop, dealt with them ages ago, for some pads,
rang them and spoke to the bloke at the time, he seemed to know about all things landrover, but can't remember the name of the place.

If it is of any help...... I just paid $166 ea for new 11"x3" drums from British Offroad. A bit dear I know but will save the hassle of getting oversize shoes in the future. My thinking that it would keep everything standard and not be a pita for ourselves or others in time to come.

The $55 was for the 2 1/4" drums. You bought 3" drums. These may be more expensive as they are less common.

yeh, I'd want'a havet'a hope so or else I could get a little annoyed. Typical though. Any excuse to jack the price up. But.......I still reckon it's ok value considering I can rest assured, knowing I can pull up that isuzu if I have to. :wasntme:
