View Full Version : Are you really OK ?

Much of my work is overseas so I need to have regular health checks for insurance purposes. Up until now I have always passed with flying colours, notwithstanding smoking, drinking, being overweight and not getting enough exercise.
The last round of tests showed a slight ECG abnormality which the Doc thought he may as well follow up.
It turns out I have a major problem, but now that we know about it and can treat it, the outcome is expected to be OK.
I had no obvious symptoms (but my lifestyle choices have now changed ) and if it hadn't been for regular check ups I would have dropped dead in the next few months.

My message...........have regular check ups......no-one is bullet proof.

End of sermon !

Sorry to hear that
Health check ups are a very good idea.
I beat bladder cancer through an early diagnosis, keep a constant check on my leukemia and had a heart scan recently. Apparently it is enlarged with thick walls, some rubbish about high blood pressure :D

Just another to ad to the list.:)

Keep the regular heart checks up.
You never know what will happen.
I lost a good Army mate soon after his 50th birthday, massive heart attack and no one knew he had a heart problem :(

Good that you discovered it before it caused problems :D Sad fact is men are not good at health checks until something drastic goes wrong

Just being male puts you behind the 8 ball anyway with heart disease...add age, overweight, blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and some artery hardening and you are a disaster just waiting to happen.

In otherwords just about 50% of the male population as it stands at the moment :(

So the other 50% are studs!! :D
That would probably equal the age difference anyway, would it not?

Then there is no reason to be worried about a heart attack Ron! :D

I remember as a kid about mum telling me of this fella in his early 30's that they did an angiogram on and his heart was all plugged up. Fast lifestyle she said. 20 years later it's probably not a problem for him anymore.

Reckon you still are but don't for one minute think you'd cheat on your missus Ron ;)

I would but I can't afford the payout - plus I'm scared of her.

Elisabeth tells me it's $1/2 million for a cheat with someone her age and increasing the younger the girl gets. As I want an 18 yo. blonde with big, er, eyes, I reckon it will be expensive. :(

Hey NM,
You forgot another major contributor.
Men have to live with women:cool:

And Ron,
A story I heard whilst wheeling a taxi around Melb in the 70's was that a few of the massage parlours had a wardrobe of runners, tee shirts & shorts and when a "patron" carked it from too much, errr, excitement, they would discretely dress him up, out the back door and placed in some quiet street not too close.:p. The coronor would say another jogger bites the dust.
So if we hear that you :Thump: jogging.................... we wont tell.

After watching 'underbelly" i thought any one found dead in the back streets of Melbourne had been knocked over by Carl Williams hit men:rocket:
Seriously though I just turned 50 and you have made me think about getting some checks done. I've got too much left to do yet I'm not ready to go

I guess we all think we are invincible. If I hadn't been forced to have check ups I would never have known. We all hear and ignore the messages and I have to admit that I ignored the lifestyle issues. I suppose that the main message is that early detection gives you the best chance for the best life.

Dont forget the low crown grey Akubra turned down all around, the blue Chambray shirt, the brown wool tie with a merino on it, and the tan R.M.Williams.
