I'm looking at buying a D1, but would like to hear from people who have theirs on gas.
what i would like to know you opinion on :
the change in performance / power
the fuel consumption both on petrol and when on gas
where is your gas tank located, and how big is it?
What gas system do you have (ie gas senquential injection)
any issues with the vehicel being on gas.
and if you had the conversation done in Melb/ Vic where abouts and approx. price
thanks all
Dale

I've had both venturi and sequential gas injection on the same car (Range Rover). There is no detectable difference in power between gas and petrol in the injected system.
On the venturi system, i occasionally changed back to petrol for hard hill climbs as the power drop off was noticeable.

Not sure what system it is.Scuba tanks in the back 60 ltrs(55 useable approx)I get about 200kms a tank on gas(Approx i don't keep records)I fill it about once a week with going to and from work and general running around town.Fuel is about 80ltrs and i get approx 350kms on petrol(I don't often run on petrol for more than a day to keep things working)I don't feel any diff in power between the two.The conversion was done before i bought it in Ballarat.Sorry i can't be more exact but hope this gives you an idea.Cheers Brett

I get about 4.5 KMS per litres around town and about and about 5 - 5.5 in the country. A thirsty beast, even on gas (D1 auto, 125,000 KMS)
The gas guy that converted it reckons he can get a bit better economy than that - just have to get around to taking it in to him.
I do notice the difference in power when switching to petrol.
Runs perfectly on both fuels, and switches instantly.
I have an irritating squeek from the gas tank, though.

I have the scuba tanks in mine. Most they have ever taken to fill is 63 liters. I get around 300kms out of a tank. Which is a whole heap cheaper than running it on petrol.

I have what I think is an 80lt tank behind the front seats (i have a cage and no rear seats)
Has 72 usable litres. I consistently get 270-280km's per tank on road, and 290-300 highway kilometres with the car fairly well tuned.
I flog the crap out of it but I'm happy with consumption, although the leads, plugs, rotor and cap are probably due for a change.
This is on a 3.9 D1 update, motor is a bit tired.
Gas system is conventional venturi type.
There is a noticeable change in power but It's not significant. I'm just happy running about on gas at half the cost.
Cheers
Dave.

D1 with 4.6 and gas injection.
It is a banked injection setup ie feeds gas to one bank of cylinders and then the other. You wont get sequential injection on a D1 but it is available with a D2.
Original fuel tank replaced and have about 70-75 ltrs usable.
Fuel consumption is about the same on gas & petrol.
Has slightly more power on gas.
