View Full Version : Ideas for a project

I need some ideas for a longer term project.

I had plans of holding onto my old pre update Disco and putting a GM3800 V6 and TH700 into it, but the Disco was still in g/c so I sold it complete and driveable. The commodore which was going to donate the parts is still in g/c too so it has hung around. I'd love to let the yobbo within emerge make a road burner out of the commodore but it's not a good set to get involved in:D.

The IIA with a 161 which needs a little bit of work, I was going to sell it but I'm thinking maybe I should try to get it roadworthy again. Its in a shed full of mice and spiders, I'll need to find a person unphased by arachnids to help recover it onto a trailer:p.

I feel like I need a crappier 4wd than the Disco as it's a pretty nice vehicle and I don't want to wreck it. Maybe a cheap troopy or 60 series with half a million on the clock?

Any ideas out there?

We proabaly need to know a little more about what your goal is:

Extreme 4wd? Competition? Fun? Touring? Cruiser? Working Vehicle? Racer? Daily driver? Will you be registering it for road use?

or a Jeep CJ5/6/7 (plenty of variations in engines/drivelines there :p)
A classic 4x4 to complement the IIa.

Or the vehicle I lusted after as a primary school/early high school kid in the mid/late seventies reading the US off road mags.
Jeep Cherokee Chief (huge steel flares, wide track dana 44's ) with the 401 engine and Quadra Trac (full time 4wd t/case with LSD)
Hardly any made it into the country, but that shouldn't stop you :p

Inter scout with the big 394 V8 in it :D, or just get the SIIa out and fix her up- put it in nuetral, release the handbrake and pull it out with the disco.

I reckon you should build something unique...theres no point buying a 60 series, FJ40 or anything 'mainstream' with big wheels, lotsa lift, bars, winch etc..theres too many around and they are getting to be like ar$ehole$ ;)

what about something like a early disco or rangie with a ute conversion, lairy paint, big wheels and lift... now thats something you dont see everyday

OR a nice defender 90....or the scout idea :D be original and think outside the square :burnrubber:

Bobtail an old rangie 2 door:eek:, put a gen5 sbchev, turbo 700, patrol/cruiser diffs:twisted:. Keep it a moderate height with 33' tyres.;)
Fun, different and nothing on or off road will touch you:cool:

There was a bobtail in north queensland that looked really cool. Bit like a Daka tomcat thing.

Could you make two? White is fine.:wasntme:

Here, you could graft this under your SIIA

Love the comments: " Value now increased due to it not being built by Indians.."

I'm thinking maybe dump the hard top off the series and have a decent roll cage built. Like this one I found on AULRO right here:
http://www.aulro.com/afvb/attachments/projects-tutorials/3827d1188455971-boys-series-iii-swb-dscf0033.jpg

I need new brakes on the IIA, and for peace of mind a better radiator and electric cooling fan.

I could see that ^^ with a decent roll cage:). A set of nice muddies and we have a start.

(PS. No I am not the person wearing a wife beater with the Navara)

I have a 350 Chev Rangie in need of a good home. Needs minor work to get road worthy but would make an excellent play truck

Sorry gents but according to the letter I received from VicRoads, V8s are out until 8/2010 for the licence I hold. Shame too because most RRs are in the right price range:(.

But it's OK to drive a much more powerful V6 Dunnydore.

Bobtail RR.

Forget about the V8 thing, you've got a Land Rover, get a trailer. 2010 is the blink of an eye away.;)

I know, it's absolute bollocks, isn't it.
It's the same here in NSW. Green P platers can't drive something like a C180 Mercedes with all it's safety features as it uses forced induction, yet can jump straight into a VN Dunnydore that has more grunt ............

And restore the cabin (ditch the rear end), mounting it on a Rangie chassis, with v8 etc. Custom tray...

Then you have monster arches (for monster tyres), and a UNIQUE truck.

Cheers!~

Easy fix use a comma V6 theres adaptors to bolt em up to the LT95 :D:D:D:D

That would give more poke than a standard 3.5 aswell and probably be beta on juice too :D:D:D
