Fitting D1 TJM bar to Disco 2

I have an alloy TJM D1 bar that I want to fit to a 00 D2
The bar came off an airbag DI but the bar does not have any crush cans/areas (only heavy steel plate/bracket to fit to chassis).
So suspect is not an airbag Bar/fitting and will need to fit to crush cans on D2 somehow.

Does anyone know if I can fit this to the D2 alloy crush cans by making a bracket or if TJM make a D2 kit that can use to fit this to my D2?

My airbag compatible D1 TJM bar looks just like a regular bullbar bar underneath.
I'm pretty sure the later D1s didnt have crush cans, they had an inertia switch in the airbag controller itself.
I don't think fitting that bar to your D2 would be compliant, the bars are designed and tested for specific vehicles.
Especially if you go mucking around with the SRS system - that's gotta be a big no no.

Isn't the D2 body 50mm wider than the D1?

That could be the "show stopper".

i dont think the d2 is any wider than the d1. longer, yes.

I thought the body width was the same, but the track is wider.

D1 dimensions:

length over all 4524mm, width 1793mm, track 1486mm/1486mm

D2 dimensions:

loa 4630mm, width 1885 mm, track 1540mm/1560mm

Wider by 92 mm! :eek:

Now some of that could be the additional flaring to accommodate the wider track but I recall that the body itself was about 50mm wider internally.

I read somewhere that the grille on the D2 had the body coloured margin around it so that LR could use the D1 grille unchanged

So all of that is very interesting but I reckon that I'd be getting the tape measure out and checking the width of the bull bar and the spacing of the chassis rails on the D2 relative to the mounting points on the bull bar.

No problems fitting the bar - bolts right on and fits pretty nicely everywhere - need to cut the wrap around as about 30-40 mm too close the front of the wheels (ie juts into the arch a fraction). Otherwise a prefect fit with no mods to the bar nor the mounting off the D1

BUT I had to remove the alloy support (read box section) that bolted to the front of the chassis that was holding the original bumper (light steel frame with plastic). The front of the chassis has exactly the same dimensions and sleeved bolt holes as the D1.

So my only issue is should I bolt the old bar (alloy) to the alloy box section (by attaching it to the light steel frame of the original) OR use the stiff steel mounts (about 8mm thick) from the D1?

I only want this to hold the aerial, lights and to not be as low as the plastic and provide limited low speed bump protection.

Mate of mine went down this track a couple of yers ago and all was fine as far as fit was concerned.

Then he stacked it......... into a 3 pointed star's rear end.......

Insurance cover declined due to "non compliance of vehicle attachment"

Total out of pocket for him was $23,600!

Makes the cost of a 'compliant' bullbar of around $1200 seem pretty cheap to me. Besides, you'll probably get $400 for the old bar on fleabay anyway.

OK an Update

TJM make mountings that are SRS compliant, cost about $450 but they will not sell it to me to fit old bar to car - policy from HO.

So I have bought a new bar from TJM and will be selling off the old D1 bar

I have fitted the new bar - looks great in black on white car - and the mount brackets are substantial (far more so than the original crush cans) nd would have been fine with the old alloy bar.

Oh well need to be legal so no choice.
