Had to book the D3 in for it's 24k service today, and it got me wondering why the service intervals are so short here? UK, as far as I remember, is 12 months or 15k (Maybe 12k) miles and while the climates are substantially different, I can't quite equate this to requiring double the servicing?!
Anyone any ideas?

just had my 24K done last week. I agree, My last one, '03 td5, the interval was 20K. TDV6 'S' bit pricey too.... Abt $870 but that included a $80 wheel align and $60 car hire!!! I reckon you could get away with just doing an oil change @ 12k. Downside is risking voiding the 6 year corrosion warranty. Don't think I will keep mine 6 years.

I vaguely remember my D2 TD5 had 20k service intervals except if driven in temperatures over 32C then they halved (I can be corrected by a D2 owner).
12k is short, my VW TDI has 15k service intervals.

Rang the dealer on monday asking why the dash says its overdue and the windscreen sticker says its got another 3k to go, was told its varible services depending on how hard the car has been working eg city cycle shorter services. Apparently the car tells you when its due. Wish I had of known beforehand as its now overdue by 3.5k.

yes u guys are right d2 td5 is every 20k unless driving in temps over 32c.dealers do advise to have a small service in between at the 10k interval ithink this is only an oil change & check over
idid sample oil at 15k & then at 20k & sent it to castrol & all was ok.
castrol do not provide this service anymore
the td5 i have now i change the oil at 10k& has major at 20k .
this is because it does lots of short trips
as most of you guys are pretty mech. minded &keep a good eye on the vehicle extended service intervals should be ok
people who dont look under bonnet for 20k & 12months are asking for trouble
cheers paul:(

If you have a D3 then it doesn't have variable servicing. At least the 2005 model (like mine doesn't) unless something has changed with the later models? I know the Range Rover has variable servicing based on driving style, etc.
The D3 has to be serviced every 12,000 Kms OR 6 months - whichever comes soonest. So if you travel 12,000 KMs in 3 months it's due another service again. If you travel only 1,000 Km's in 6 months it's still due a service. The dealer resets the service interval on your trip computer and it should start to remind you a few weeks before 6 months is up (says service due in 20 days or something like that). Not sure if it reminds you based on Km's travelled as mine has never done 12K between services (it just gets done every 6 months).
Unless they've reset your service interval computer incorrectly, or I'm reading your post incorrectly I'd get your car booked in asap. You may already have given them reason to not honor the warranty if you have an engine related problem. :(
