D2 Rear Airbags simple question

When replacing the D2 SLS rear air bags, should I disconnect the battery first?

In none of the threads on this subject has anyone mentioned this.

My reason for asking is that I thought the computer tries to level the car even with the key removed by initially running the compressor (for the first few seconds) or by releasing air as necessary from the solenoid valves for the next 1/2 hr after removing the key and opening any door, ie to keep the back level when removing all that camping gear. (or LR spare parts :p)

I hope disconnecting it is not necessary, 'cos I cant be stuffed spending 10 mins fiddling with the battery connections and inputting the radio code if I didnt need to. Were talkin beer drinkin' time being wasted here :o

No need, just done 2 on a friends D2, ignition off, chock front wheels.

1) Loosen wheel nuts
2) Jack up rear axle until wheels clear of ground
3) Put axle stands under chassis (I used rear tow hitch)
4) Remove wheels
5) Lower jack until chassis on axle stands
6) Lower axle a little further just to take pressure off springs
7) Using 10mm spanner, losses air pipe fixing at top of spring until air escapes then allow to depressurise slowley, feel bag will go soft.
8) Remove pipe fixing from spring but keep it clean.
9) Release 2 spring clips on top locating pins, look at new ones first and its obvious how they unclip.
10) pull top mount down until free then twist bag 90 degrees to free bottom mount and remove spring.
11) Some after market springs have a push in air pipe fitting, if thats the case, push the nut back up the pipe to the shoulder to reveal the olive, cut the pipe just behind the olive with a sharp knife and check the end of the pipe is clean and unblocked. Slide the nut off and discard.
12) Reassembly is the reverse procedure but if you have the push in fitting for the air pipe, push it in until the shoulder reaches the fitting then pull back gently to seat, the pipe shouldn't come out.
13) Before putting the wheels on I started the car and shut all the doors, if the springs dont fill with air, jack up the rear axle and this should trigger the compressor to fill the bags, you can select the high position using the internal switch if you like, check for leaks and a bag that looks as it should then on with the wheels and you off.:)
