My friend has a 1998 130 which has been kept immaculate and had anything done which needs to be done. But in the last several weeks when on turbo it sounds as if it is sucking water. Of course it is not water but it is the sound.

IT has done 185,000 with no mods except dual battery. IT doesn't often tow but from time to time it tows just over a ton in weight so not really a hard life for a 130.

After a reasonable run he always keeps the vehicle running for a couple of minutes.

Any ideas why this water sucking sound may be present? btw, it has not had noticeable power loss with this noise.

Thanks.

Could be a split turbo hose , Try the 90 degree hose from the turbo to the intercooler they can split right on the clamp and make that sort of noise

Hmmm, It's obviously a lemon, i'll take it off his hands immediately.:D:D

Seriously, I agree with checking the intercooler and turbo hoses first for splits, internal de laminations and loose clamps. Some times a loose intake manifold or split intake manifold gasket can cause strange sounds under boost.

Ive had both delaminated 90 degree bend, no noise just no power.
And a loose hose clamp at the intercooler, that made the noise you are atalking about, so id be checking and replacing if necessary the two 50mm hoses from turbo to intercooler, never found many problems with the bigger flared intercooler to intake manifold hose.
