Whilst up at Gayden at the Land Rover 60th. me and my brother were talking to Drew Bowler and a very high up chap in land rover (who was giving Drew a lift home). we were all having a casual chat whilst leaning on the Nemisis. Main thing that was being talked about was the Australian Safari which Drew wants to send dome trucks to . The land rover chap stated that the bowlers we as far as land rover would get to a mayor company team as they do help bowler behind the scenes alot

But he then said something that was for me was the best/ funnest thing i have heard for a while .
He said land rover would never have a company race team as Nissan have very well proved you can throw huge amounts of money at the Dakar and get absolute no where

Reads that is a very selective use of history as a cop out of funding a works team. Had they chosen another Japanese manufacturer it would have the oposite result. In the 29 years of the Paris Dakar race, the car class has been won 12 times by a Mitsubishi Pajero, the most frequent winner in-fact, and to my understanding almost always by a Mitsubishi works backed team.

Range Rover has only ever won twice in the inaugral year and two years later, outside Mitsubishi however no other Japanese or in fact non-European make has ever won the event. Dakar Rally - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dakar_Rally)

The Dakar thing is really interesting. The Mitsubishi 'Evo' in the Dakar is a light weight pipe frame with a fibre glass body and very light weight. The Evo sedan is a great vehicle but if you've ever driven a Lancer (3 star crash rating) it is obvious that they don't put the same verve into their every day sedans. So it is interesting that they can win the Dakar consistently but be broke for a decade. I hope Tata will put some money into Land Rover for things like the Dakar. ;)

The Paris-Dakar cars all have very little in comon with their production counterparts other than the generic shape and even that is merely a carbon-fibre replica.

I believe that the very first Range Rover was relatively similar to a production car but from then on the development departed tangentially.

It is why I find it interesting that Mitsubishi use the race in their credentials for selling the Paj... but they never go so far as to suggest that the race car is only a paj... namesake.

I remember watching a doco on the Mits Dakar Rally team very interesting stuff but as said is like comparing F1 cars to a camry, just because a manufacturer throws money at it (and if they checked their facts Nissan didn't throw that much at it comparatively speaking to other manufacturers, if in doubt check Nissan's financial position over the time.) means didly squat other than bragging rights.

Landrover suffering from small man syndrome (Ron sp???) when they feel the need to attack another brand rather than stand on their own merit. As said poor excuse to get out of putting something in.

I'm sure if you asked around on here, there would be plenty of volunteers to drive or co-pilot the Nemisis in the Australian Safari

No need to "clame" down... or calm down for that matter, I drive a Disco and I do so because it suits what I want it for.

But there is a lot of "mud slinging" which is exactly what goes on in the Toyota/Nissan and Engel/Waeco camps which has nothing to do with fact.

Motor sport (as with most sports) are all about making money and advertising so that you sell more product and we all know that Landrover are against all the above......this is why they are now owned by Tata......hopefully they like to make money and will do this sort of thing so they can have advertising rights.
