Tell us what your Dream landrover is and what you'd like to have on it
It doesn't neccessarily have to be a heavily modified vehicle either;
it can be a stock standard D3 or an RRS with all the goodies.
but if you had a choice and $$$ what would choose for any of the following;
1) suspension ie how much lift , 3" spring and 3" body etc
2) Tyres and size ie BFG 37" MT etc
3) which Gear Box / Transfer case combo and Quote Ratios , ie Rock Crawler gears etc & high/low range
4) Engine ie Isuzu turbo /NA / 300tdi /200tdi/ Td5 /V8 3.5/3.9 EFI/ etc
5) Axles Hi Tuff engineering, Ashcroft, Jacmac
6) Diffs Salisbury , Rover , P38 , what Ratio on Diffs 4.11 , 4.7.
7) which Diff locks , TJM , ARB , JACMAC Trutracks , Detriots etc
8) accessories Dual battery system , Snorkle, Flares .Bull bars , Rear bars
Just imagine you have a Blank Canvas and paint what ever picture you want

As far as a touring rig, something like the 6wd Disco (paintshop mockup)that I posted in another thread but for sheer off road, a Cuthbertson track system on a defender 130 duel cab but with a chev diesel v8 under the bonnet.
I recon it would be able to manage a few ruts and stuff, side slopes may be interesting though.
Here's some pics of what I mean for those who dont know.
Question: If you have 3x29" wheels on each axel, with tracks would it still be road legal ........?:p

Still a work in progress. 84 rangie, originally 4 door, but only 2 now with shortened cab and Paratus seats. Extended wheel base which reduces front and rear overhang.
Camper back under construction with side access to storage. Back does not increase forward area or length. Roof top tent tilts up/down at rear and can be removed and setup at camp site (fits into 2 haymen-reece style receivers either side of chassis rails).
Isuzu 4BD1-T, tweaked for substantial power. Isuzu 6 speed gearbox. Atlas transfer case - high range 1:1, low range 5:1, syncro for shift on move, with twin stick for front drive (front digs), rear drive or 4wd. Disc handbrake on t/case.
Front axle is a hybrid with Nissan 4.11:1 diff, ARB locker, 105 series landcruiser axles, cv's, hubs and brakes.
Rear axle is 105 series landcruiser with 4.1:1 diff and ARB locker.
Suspension is Airock (waiting for delivery) with 12" travel airbags and shockies (front and rear all the same to reduce spares). 5" adjustment of ride height, also front rear and sideways adjustment on the fly from dash control buttons, active cornering above selectable speed. Boat trailer to be modified for offroad use with airbag suspension to lower height for launching.
Engine driven York air compressor and Parker hydraulic pump - front and rear hydraulic winches.
Codan HF radio, Icom VHF, Iridium sat phone, for communications (epirb for emergency). Panasonic Toughbook with Oziexplorer, and usb gps for navigation - Magellan FX324 with all maps as backup gps.
4 x Lightforce 240 spotties, bright, led rock lights for illumination.
Dual 110 amp hour agm batteries behind cab for electric power.
45 litre diesel sill tank - custom built long range main tank behind cab to come. 45 litre SS water tank under lh sill. 55 litre flexible water tank behind cab.
50 litre Trailblazer fridge with 125mm insulation.

Mike
I second the Mill-Spec electronics, I occasionally work with QR Locos and most electronics is Mil-Spec as failures that bring the entire loco down are NOT acceptable.
I have found that the new fangled **** they keep tacking on to LR's is one of their biggest problems.
If any of the control systems I designed were as crappy and unreliable as those in the new LR's I would be sacked (mostly because a failure is likely to cause some one to die and/or cause huge damage to the equipment involved)
GO BACK TO MECHANICAL INJECTOR PUMPS, and do a better job on the rest of the electronics. Also while I am angry and ranting like a mad man, plastic is NOT a material that should be used in engines or associated systems.
Now I am settled and all calm again.

Which Landrover is my dream Landrover probably depends on which dream I am having at the moment.
Perhaps a suffix H 2a wagon, with the 2.25 petrol engine mildly improved, Toro overdrive, salisbury rear axle, parabolics, power steering, assisted 3" brakes, probably a few extras such as bullbar, sill tanks for fuel and water, anti-burst door locks, third hinge on the rear door, alternator etc.
But then, I've got the County, which is just about as good, albeit it has done close to 500,000km. So, why dream further?

I don't have 1 dream Landrover, I have 2 - horses for courses.
(1) - weekend offroader - Roadless (forest) rover replica, with equal track front and rear (narrower front track and slightly wider rear), 4WS, dual lockers, and central winch. Maybe with a 4BD1T and ISUZU box as well. I would build this tomorrow if I could register it...
(2) - Touring vehicle - my 110 county. slowly getting there. plan is: 4BD1T, LT85/R380. Front and rear lockers, 4w discs, winch, garden tool brackets, onboard air. As much galvanising as possible, and reinforcing where needed, water tank, solar panels, etc.

Thinking it over, I would have to say that it would probably be a pink 1954 SWB with no roof, stuffed brakes, knackered clutch, dodgey chassis and leaky exhaust.
That's what my grandfather handed the keys over to me in 1966, and after fixing it with wreck bits and the odd new part from Four Wheel Drives in Sassafrass, my brother and I had years of fun belting it around the farm...................
Cheers,

I'm pretty happy with the '94 110 wagon with rear Maxi Drive.
I would add a front True Track and I would love a bigger engine.

Yep, I'll have that or my P38A with a few more mods.
Mine currently has:
155 litre long range petrol tank
Sequential LPG injection
Kaymar rear step-bar and swing-away wheel carrier
Roof rack
UHF radio
Codan 9323 HF and autotune antenna currently being fitted
plus standard features like:
Comfortable and quiet (unknown features to Defender/County owners)
A bog standard stereo that can be heard (unknown feature to Defender/County owners)
Still owner-repairable unlike later Rangies
What I'd like to add:
Drawer system (I sold the one I had in the car)
Bullbar
The winch from my RRC which is still under the bench
Possibly diff locks (I had Maxi on my RRC)
Diff guards (the QT one I bought is too much hassle to fit)
More LPG capacity
In-dash nav system (in hand albeit slowly)
Bullet-proof EAS.

I think I am getting very close to my dream rover.
It is now double locked.
The gearing on thing is very good and will allow normal cruising speeds.(overdrive)
I like the militiary looks.
Great ground clearence as stock.
Tough as nails and much stronger than a normal rover.
Engine driven compressor.
LP Gas
PTO winch (works front and rear with extra long cable standard)
No legal hassles with vehicle height .
I have extra jerry cans and tool box.
Fantastic payload.
Simple design with few of the normal rover access and reliablility draw backs
Great V8 sound
The large truck air horn has been the best thing ( for safety reasons of course)
I like the room in the back and it sleeps two people with gear inside.
The small out side dimensions is fantastic too.
In the long term only a bigger rover V8 motor and a roof top tent are the only improvements I really need to make.
Just thinking some modern tyres and flexiable suspension would top it off.
You could really go crazy with things like power steering and disc brakes, but a 101 is all about being a man and not a mouse.:p:p

This one must come close.
Extended to 130 inch wheel base so a five speed gearbox and bigger donk fits.
Has everything,hot water,solar,washing machine, shower,200litre fridge etc.
Nothing has been left out.
The draw back is the 4 plus tonnes in weight.
