G'day P38arover :)
Well what do you expect Ron, they probably didn't get "I" before the "E", except after "C" drummed into them by teachers that could spell ;) it's all touchy-feely and phonetic these days :(
BTW. I have recently received an invitation to the 50th anniversary of my high school (Balmoral State High) in Brisbane, as one of the foundation classes of the school. Ooh! there are some painful memories of there.
cheers

Don't worry Ron, I came to the conclusion a long time ago that in this country they do not speak English, they talk Aussie.
People don't ask, they arsed.
But can be used to start a sentence.
In common time a Mofo is a term of endearment.
Even in the old dart the Queens English is very casually used.
In the immortal words of Rodney "The worlds full o' Plonkers"

G'day Uncle Ho, it's been going on for a long time. I think I've recounted before the story of a visit to a school open night at Ceduna back in 1970. When I commented on the work marked correct when it was patently full of spelling errors, I was told they didn't correct them as it would stifle the children's creativity.
I retorted to the teacher "So you can't spell either?" A reply was not forthcoming.

It's not just spelling Ron. I checked my daughter's maths book at her open evening to find that several of her incorrect answers were ticked as being correct. I questioned the teacher and got told, "Well she's normally correct, so I don't check that closely."
No wonder literature and science are going down the tubes. :o:o
