Well, you can't have mine :D but...

City cycle 15-17 carefully driven.
Down to 10.5-11.5 on the hwy. 98 Octane.

In the city we get ~18 (not carefully driven ;)) on 98 octane

As for second hand - the D3 is the first new vehicle I have ever bought for the very reason that second hand ones are like rocking horse pellets - rare!!

Hi redfender

I have only had mine for a few weeks (2500Km of driving though) and on the open road I have been suprised, as WhiteD3 mentioned approx 10.5 to 11.5L/100Km (Av 82Km/hr, about 700Km to the tank), around town I have had nothing better than approx 17L - 20L /100Km (Av 35Km/hr, about 350-400Km to the tank).

I have always owned V6 sedans / wagons so it is fairly thirsty compared to those (probably the extra Ton or so!).

As to buying 2nd hand cannot help you there sorry, I had a fairly good look around and found that what I would spend on a 1-2 year old vehicle (and not knowing if it had been swimming or not ) I was better off spending the extra fun tokens and getting a new one.

Cheers

Paul

PS fuel was standard unleaded

Paul,

Give 98 octane a go. The extra cost will be more than offset by the economy and (supposedly) it's better for the engine.

By careful driving I mean that I don't let it rev above 2700 (max torque I think) when taking off. I'm not a slow driver by any means but I've had to teach myself to accelerate more slowly around town.

Thanks WhiteD3, I will do that for the next couple of tanks and let you know how the results go.

The other bias I might have with mine may be that it is still quite new and bedding in?

well, I am in the same boat here, new TDV6 is beyond the budget and petrol is not an option here. I have been looking for a one or two year and TDV6 D3, well, simply very hard!:(

I agree with 16's for heavy city driving, but I'd expect 10's-11's for highway; but then that would assume cruise control most of the way.

As I've said before in posts on this subject: Prior to the D3 I had Subaru Liberty 2.5's and no matter how hard you drove the econ would be the same, 10s (My manual '98 2.5 liberty was the best car I've ever had:D:D:D, better than the 2005 2.5i) .

The D3 with the Ford V6 is not the same beast:(; I've had to completely re-style my city driving to slow acceleration (revs <= 2700) and to anticipate braking. Doing this I've dragged my first few months with the D3 from 19s to 15-16s.

Keep in mind though the D3 V6 should be measured on the diff between say a Falcon or Commodore V6 and the D3's figures with 2.7 ton to drag around.
