View Full Version : Solution to fix sagging roof liners

I have an idea that I discovered to fix sagging roof lining. I am not sure about rangies but nearly all the disco's I have looked at have them.

I will point out now that this is a simple effective and reasonably good looking solution but not a 1k solution from a motor trimmer. I came up with and used this on a car which had the same problem and it worked well.

1. get some needles from the chemist ($3 for 10)
1a. buy cocaine (optional)
2. get some super glue (have you guessed already?)
3. Put some superglue in the needle
4. stretch the roof liner and find a straight point from window to window where you can make a glue line in dots (near the back of the car). Pull the fabric tight and inject a tiny tiny amount of glue against the roof, push the tight fabric onto the glue and compress the old foam padding.
5.The glue makes a weld point holding the fabric onto the roof at that one point. Lines look quite neat but I also put one dot in corners around the sun visors etc.. in the end the whole roof was back to the original shape.

RESULT: The result for me was a roof which was moulded back to original shape and looked 100% on the sagging which I find offensive to look at. The glue dots are noticeable if you look at them but far less noticable than the sag and for day to day driving they're irrelevant. Obviously a new roof is nice but for the money, if the car is a little rough or even as an intermediate problem solver it is ok.

Also be careful with the needles, I did get myself in the thigh with one full of superglue and its not overly painful but reasonably unconstructive.

Hope this is helpful to someone.

My needs doing and until I remove it, I might give this method a try. Thanks!

PS. Since when does one inject cocaine:eek:?

Yer, yer... first you encourage the purchase of an illicit substance...

Then you allegedly stabbed yourself accidently with a syringe containing another euphoric substance.

I'm on to you, as is ASIO.

I used a generic type brand, I find superglue can work very well in some situations and badly in others. EG I can never seen to get it to glue two broken bits of plastic together. But it works very well when it can soak into something like fabric. One trick is to use a bit of glossy paper to push up, your finger will stick and you will pull the liner down again.

i thought you just sniffed super glue.......

i wonder how this would work as a botox injection......must try it on the wifes lips......
it may just stop them from flapping like it did your roof lining......

EG I can never seen to get it to glue two broken bits of plastic together Thats because it can't....I know this because I had to buy some supa glue yesterday to stick something in the D2 and had to ask what polythyrene or something like that was......plastic :)....and that it doesnt stick plastic together. So there ya go.....not completely useless information ,

There is a specially made glue for small plastic clips and fittings which does work 100%. I cant remember the name but I saw it at a car paint supply place in east burbs of VIC. The next time you pull out a plastic bit of the dash and crack a clip, there is a solution.

Thats a great idea but to late for me as i had my roof dropped out and cleaned and new lining glued on, was advised by apoulsterer that it is not a hard job to do yourself mine cost $260 remove repair and refit.
Looks as good as new now. This is common on a lot of cars as they had two commodores and a falcon in the yard while I was there and he stated all car brands do it.
The hardest part of the job is undoing all the seatbelts lights etc that hold the lining up and then fitting it back.
The backing on the material deteriates in this lets the cloth go.
