View Full Version : Gas injection on diesel query

Just had a call from BIL regarding running his diesel Plado on gas given the price is well on the way to $2 per litre. Talked about the trend for some vehicles owners to install a gas unit that injects gas together with the diesel. Apparently gives better fuel burn and better economy.
It got me thinking, is anyone aware of someone converting their D3 to this set up? If so, what was their experience?
Thanks

It does work. They're installing it on semi's.
Matter of fact (since you're in WA), I seem to recall a big trucking company over there has converted their trucks to it.
Don't know any details because it's of no interest to me, but I think they use about 20% LPG to 80% diesel.
But truckies have heaps of space to stick LPG tanks.
Unless you're doing huge distances, I can't see any advantage in doing it on a private car given that you have to find space for the tank, and you're only going to have a marginal improvement on your diesel MPG.

Do a search on LPG fumigation. It's been covered many, many times.

Other way round. They use 20% diesel to 80% LPG/LNG. LPG/LNG does not compression ignite and therefore the diesel component is used as the "spark" for the combustion process.

Thanks for straightening me out on that Aedo.
As I said it was of no great interest to me, so I wasn't listening too closely.
I got the fact that it worked, and the ratios right, just not which was 20% and which was 80%.
Come to think of it, maybe thats why the outboard on my boat doesn't work properly. Maybe I'm mixing the two stroke wrong.
Maybe 99% oil and 1% petrol is the wrong way round!!

I was at a party tonight, and just by coincidence the bloke I was talking to said that he was setting his car and caravan up to go around Australia.
He said that he was going to set his Landcruiser up with this diesel and lpg system that you were asking about.
When I asked why, he said the reason was that a bloke he knew pulls a 26ft caravan with a 100 series diesel Landcruiser and had converted his to take the LPG and was very happy with it.
Gave him better economy and more power.
So it works!
