Our TDI auto has an unusual problem where it will will cut out or stall when it hits some bumps then it will fire back to life without touching anything.:o It will go for weeks then will do it again. It has also done it on a trip where it would not start after fuelling up:mad:. The only thing I did was touch the wiring harness in the engine bay to the fuse box and it started. :)I cannot find anything loose and its impossible to have it do it for an auto electrican or mechanic. Any clues?
thanks Rob

The relay in the relay box will be dodgy.

If it does it then normally if you tap the top of the box then it will work again.

Not a comon fault but I had it aswell as a mate of mine.

I replaced the relay (I think) with a standard single pole N/O relay but I can check tomorrow.

Thanks MCrover. Is it the relay with its own metal stand just beking the fuse box? Well thats the one I was suspecting. I wasn't sure if there could be any other problem.

In the manual tdi, (at least on mine), the power lead to the fuel shut off solenoid has an extension to reach the injector pump. Both this connection and the female spade connector to the injector pump can be dodgy. A clean and tighten (like one does to the starter motor connector) should keep it running. Since yours is an auto, it also could be that the EDC wires to the injector pump, or fuse to the EDC unit isn't seated properly - causing the EDC to act up - that may explain the stalling.

The relay behind the fuse box should be the glow plug relay - once running it should be off.

My mind is going back 4 years and was at the ute muster in Deni, had a bit too much Bundy the day/night/day/night before and was trying just about everything but Im pretty sure it was in the box but I could be wrong.

I have to open the engine bay and have a look, I will see which fuse it was as I used a spare that was in my tool box and it was bright blue or greenish colour so I wont be able to miss it.

I didnt get a chance today, I will try tomorrow.

Definatly try the connector first.

Ive heard this one before,SPIDER is the answer given.
Unsure where this lives or what it is as Im not a D1 pilot.
Posibbly the autotrans or alarm connection, try a search for spider or ask in Tech Chatter.
