View Full Version : Roof lining rant

My Disco has a sagging roof lining which I need to get replaced. So as there is no way of getting it done in town I thought I'd organise getting it done in Melbourne or somewhere in western Victoria when I'm down there in July.

Sounds easy doesn't it? Find a suitable automotive trimmer, give them 8 weeks notice of the job and tell them the exact dates I can be there.

Couldn't be more wrong, every one that I have contact has been concerned that it might need the roof lining removed (of course it bloody well will!) and it could be a big job (am I missing something here, that's why I won't attempt it) and they can't tell me whether they can do it unless they can look at it. What's to look at? I need a new roof lining, the foam backing is shot and it needs to be replaced... all of it! I'm not even asking them to quote on a price.

Some of these shops, I know, have done Disco2's before but don't seem to be very interested. One guy went as far as saying "if I could leave it with him for a week".. a WEEK! I'm on holidays with a limited travel time.

Has anyone here been down this path? Can anyone recommend someone who does know what to do?

I had my D1 Roof done it only took 3-4 hours for them to drop roof hood out pull off old lining clean spread glue fit new lining trim and fit. I had a motor trimmer who does them for the local dealer so he had done a few. He acuraly said its not hard to do yourself if you can get the hood out and follow steps above and work from centre out so as no bubbles. Mine cost $250 app 3 years ago.

If you can, give me a call - 0419 587 107 or 03 9726 9823. Perhaps I can help if time's a-jammin' in July in eastern Melbourne suburbs.

I got my D1 done about 2m ago by Automotive Sunroof & Trimming Services
43 Regent St Oakleigh 3166 (03) 9568 0015.
Ask for Phil. They did a great job & looks like the original. Tell him that Dave sent you. Mine took about a day, but I had to book about a week in advance.

Dave.
