I'd like a WW2 Jeep to go with my Series Land Rover.

I've driven one a few times before and they are good fun! But my Series truck is supported by plenty of mechanics, Australian-based spare parts places and forums like this to ask plenty of questions.

I'm worried about the Jeep: does anyone know somewhere in Australia that looks after ancient Jeeps?

Someone out there must know...

AUSJEEPOFFROAD - Powered by vBulletin (http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/)

Try there, there are a few guys that own Jeep shops on that forum and most are very helpful.

When we had a Jeep I used the forum quite a bit to track down parts etc and they had a small but faithfull Ex military and historic group that should be able to help.

BTW, it's an MB Willys, and a GPW Ford. ;)

And as mcrover says, there are many businesses and clubs supporting old Jeeps in Oz.
I've had a '70 model Fullsize J series, and a '74 CJ and never had a problem getting spares and parts

I really wanted a Jeep but after about 6 weeks of looking I gave up because even ones in shotty condition were fecthing huge bucks compared to a series L.R..

There is a very active Military Jeep Club in Brisbane. Also the long established Hammond Jeep Spares, and I would imagine you can find any part you could conceivably need bening manufactured again and sold over the internet.

I had a '43 Willys for about 6 years and rebuilt it from a wreck. Price will depend on what you want, from a 'shelf queen' to a farm vehicle could range from $20+k to a couple of thousand. For NSW owners you can't go past Max Goodrich at Walcha, although I think his son Neil is running the business from Tamworth these days. The internet will give you their current trading address. All parts are readily available including heaps of NOS parts. They are dead simple to work on and are a rewarding, enjoyable and very capable vehicle to own maintain and drive.

Good luck with your search - as Brian suggested, the clubs are dedicated and usually very helpful for prospective searchers/members. There's even a register that can trace your chassis to its military origin. With a wartime production of about 650,000 plus later Hotchkiss versions, you're bound to find one soon.

There is nothing you can not buy brand new for a ww2 jeep except for a chassis and block.
Parts prices are good and there are many sources of help to restore or repair a ww2 jeep.
Marathon Spares are a good place to look for parts in Aust.
I am a member of the AMVCS and there is many other clubs Aust and world wide.
A ww2 jeep is a excellent vehicle in its own right.
