Fat50 and a pootrol went up Mt Mee on sat and guess what. As well as AAron saying the roads have now been graded, the bulldozers have been through, A break has been closed off with posts and alot of the side tracks as well. Seems half has been shut down, don't know which ones excactly apart from A break as I wwasn't there myself, but that is even more now in SEQ that has had the fun taken out of it.

If you go via the "Albany Hwy" side of "Serpentine dam water catchment" area you will come across locked gates with big signs that say:
KEEP OUT ... WATER CATCHMENT AREA .... and then it will carry on about pollution / oil / peeing / cars / bikes all contaminate & destroy our water resources .. so keep it pristine ... keep out
If you go in there (like i did / no i didn't cut the locks of the gate) you will, in some spots, find drill rigs have bored heaps of RC holes / just like the kind if you were hunting for minerals and looking to develop a open cut mine (have worked on mines & used theses rigs)
So.. is the gate locked to "Keep the water pollution free" or is there something that they don't want the public to see

I was up there last week and they had closed the second half of A Break for grading. I was wondering how they were going to grade it, as some of the steepest bits had be destroyed from wheel spin, in a manner that left two options - 1) rebuild it (yeah right) 2) grade it out which would leave a slop at most.
Due to the closure I was left to explore, and did find a track leading off A Break, which would be a great day trip, with a hill climb for those that wanted to.
Ill do a run up there on my weekend (Wed/thurs) and have a look. This track can be accessed from A Break or I think Peggs/Byron road. See what happens.

No wonder they haven't had any more moon landings. Someone closed it for maintenance!

Aaron, I think this is the one you mean.

In pine plantations within QLD forests, you are only allowed to drive on "roads suitable for 2-way traffic", so I have been surprised that some of the "good" tracks are within them over here.
It is a real shame to hear that A-break has been closed. It was one of the few "good" tracks. A friend told me that many years ago, you could drive on a lot more tracks, and many of the best tracks got marked as "dozed lines" when they mapped the area - i.e. not a track - so couldn't be driven on. Is the track to Diana's Bath still open? The loop at the end was always good fun.

According to parks ranager the tracks are all open again, but you can view all the track status here

Fat50 told me the A break closure was with posts into the gound accross the track. As I said I wasn't there, but thought I would share the info. Posts are normally a bit more permanant than road works.

Kinda hard to see/get perspective on that footage.
All will be revealed wednesday/thursday guys. Ill do all of A Break if its open, and see if it is still a 4wd track.

Aaron,
If it is closed, how about going up to the ranger's place and asking why?
Cheers.

A Break is a go`er
The road was closed just for work. I think officially it was still closed as the signs were still up at the Dianas Bath Rd entrance. From the Gantry side the signs were knocked over and pushed into scrub. There were no permanent signs at all.

The work they have done was purely maintainance and redoing the flood ways. They've done a brilliant job as its far from smooth, but they've taken away all the wheel ruts.
Dust is severe (lol) ankle deep bull dust. I cant wait to see how the track looks after a decent shower. With the loose conditions Ive never had TC firing on all cylinders like it was today.
The track I have found (may be a popular one for all I know) is 400m's from the beginning of A Break (Gantry side) take a left and drive. 300 Meters into the track there is a severe wheel rut section. After rain I just know its going to hold water for weeks. Key to it will be keeping to the left... Obviously feel around with a long stick (right hand side of the rut there are couple of trees where ive thrown some ideal depth feeling stick) This track just leads down, down, down and down some more.
Thats all... Go have some fun.
