Gday guys,

The verdict is that the steering box on the 300tdi disco is shot, and im looking for a replacement.

A) Is a reconditioned one ok? if so what should i be concerned with? should i get my own unit repaired? (it is pretty bad, very worn/sloppy/leaky)

B) Where in australia is a reasonably priced place to get one from? QLD would be nice for a reco/exchange situation, but for a reasonable price an outright pruchase is fine also.

C) anyone had any issues with swapping these? it doesnt look too hard...

Answers much appreicated,
Cheers!

You can buy reco ones for around the $700 mark in oz or do what I did and get one from the UK,brand new for $750 delivered. Pat

Last look LRA had them for around $550 with about $40 in freight to QLD, I will be seriously looking into it in the next couple of weeks as mine is shot aswell.

Yeah ok,

I just spoke with BMI and was quoted around $1000 (gst inc) for a new one.

550$ for a reco sounds pretty good! that was through the dealer network eh?

No from Les Richmond Automotive in Melb

http://www.lrautomotive.com.au/

From the blurb on the web page they reco and mod the LR steering box to stop the issues that we are currently experiencing

Thanks!

Any thoughts on how difficult it is to change?

hahahah a freelander has a basic rack like a normal car

Its the disco one that doesnt work :P

For once the freelander isnt the (only) one needing immediate work, (although the engine is out atm :P)

Could try M R Automotive at Redcliffe 07 3284 6688 - they do exchange service for quite a few items.

Is it the same as the 4 bolt steering box out of a classic rangie?
