Hi brett
You wont even know you have 32's with your v8, I noticed a bit with my dsl and it only put the speedo out about 5kms. As long as you have a lift theyll fit ok

HI
Mine cost $730 plus $90 freight from vic, go to www.lrautomotive.com.au (http://www.lrautomotive.com.au)
and have a look at the white tiger products. This kit would have to be the best ive seen. It takes about a day and a half if you can get your hands on a 2 post hoist.

Im staying with the 235's any bigger and ill kill my dsl. With the right offset rims 235's dont rub, only when it was std they did, i couldnt even turn the steering wheel a 1/4 without rubbing on the bumper bar.

Did you have any major dramas lifting the actual body itself? Like did you have to shift much? Clutch hydraulics, cables etc.?

Not much to move at all, every thing you need comes in the kit from lra.
A two post hoist comes in handy though.

Looks really good. I have 16" LR alloys and I was thinking of discarding those for 15" sunraysia types and 33 muddies but those tyres look good and looks like they perform well too. This is my disco if the link works that is. maybe I should just keep the 16's and get the same sort of tyres

The link didnt work mate, But I run 16 x 7 rockcrawler rims with federal couragia m/t 235/85 16r and so far they are a good tyre and reasonable cheap $200 ea. I dont think theres any need to run 15's and I go everywhere 33'' tyres can go

yeah, 33s will definately put your speedo out and change the way your car brakes and accelerates. The standard tyres are around the 30 inch size so thats a fair increase to 33 inches. It looks tuff but to do it properly you will have to change the centres from 3.54's to 4.11's and while you are there you may as well throw some lockers in ;) plus you will need flares and probably a guard chop...so its isnt as simple as just throwing 33's on :(
BTW, Knotty, I got my procomps and have fitted the dislocation cones..heres a pic for ya ;) thanks for your help in this :D

hey mate. I made my own and so did Knotty. They are quite simple to make.
I used 5mm plate (only stuff I could get, 4 mm would be plenty)and cut it to a diameter of 100mm. Bore two holes in the plate at 70mm apart which is 35mm out from the centre of the disc ;) but that make sense :( and this will allow it to be bolted down to the coil plate on the diff housing.
I then cold bent some 8mm rod (around the fence post :( but it worked) and welded it to the base plate. The whole she-bang is 140mm high which allows full compression of the coil without topping out the dislocation cone. This also keeps the dislocation cone just inside the bottom of the coil at full stretch of a 26.5 inch procomp shock so they relocate properly. The pic of mine on the previous page is prety much full extension of the shock, believe it or not, I couldnt find a mound big enough in town to get the front up ;)
only problem is I cant weld, so I had a mate do that for me..but I did paint them myself :D

BTW, I reckon the procomp shocks on the back are fantastic...no I dont work for them or sell them ;)
I had it out on the tracks on the weekend for the first time with them on and I found the whole ride much smoother than with the EFS shocks on the back. The EFS shocks were a bit hard, these procomp ones have seriously reduced the kick from the back end over mid size bumps and gullies on the tracks.
the EFS shocks are still on the front, but when money allows, I am going to get a procomp set for the front :D

How much weight do you carry in the back.I carry a fair bit of weight(Wieghed the other night and went 2400 i was very surprised)and would be worried about them being to soft.Ome to me aren't bad at all infact i would say excellent.I want more flex this is the only reason i would consider changing.Cheers Brett

Very impressive wheel travel guys. I don't think I'd go to dislocation cones etc. I'm skeptical about the amount of traction that is actually generated when there is nothing more than the weight of the diff acting on the wheel.
Anyways ..... how do you rate the Dobinson coils? Are they a nice, supple spring? I've had an OME kit on my Disco for some time now and while it has served me well I do believe that I can achieve better ride quality (bit too harsh) and wheel travel than what it gives me.
Pro-comp is located less than a km from my house so I may drop in to have a chat about shock options with them.

I use to run OME and they rip you off. It cost me 1200 dollars for a 2 1/2 lift kit which i later found that the ome shocks are only about 5mm longer than std shocks. I was expecting a little bit more travel than std with higer coils:mad: Anyway enough of me ranting about ome, I find the dobinson coils to give a fantastic ride, I even have the H/Duty in the rear. A mate has king springs and nitro shocks in his disco. OMG you need a kidney belt to ride in his:D My bro disco white runs procomps and dobinsons coils aswell he has towed trailers from sydney to bilo a couple of times and he cant fault them
PeterM
4th July 2008, 02:31 PM
Well I've just found today that a significant contributer to my crap ride is the fact that at least one of the shock absorbers is purely decorative!
I think I may as well bite the bullet and fit a set of Billies, after a rebuild they will have just about paid for themselves and I can do a bit of horse trading to get them for about the same price as pro-comps.. The budget doesn't extend to coils at present but the Dobinsons, King Springs and the custom springs from LRA are all on the cards.

I am interested in the fact that you can get an in cab dial adjustment for them. Tuff dog also make an adjustable shockie which is supposed to be Australian but I have no idea of what they are like either.

Someone on here has fitted Ranchos previously, buggered if I can remember who or where, but they were ****-canned as being very poor. Best to go with the consensus on these I think, there are reasons why some brands are recommended.

Bush65 got 3" in his D1 by using Landcruiser springs.
Rancho 9000's are crap, I've been through a couple of sets. They dont take big hits very well, and once overheated they dont ever properly recover. I can trash on demand to be honest. 30mins is all I need on some corrugations, loaded and the shocks set stiff.
IMHO the adjustable valving is fantastic as you can dial in the control or the comfort that you want/need from the suspension, and setup rates that will keep the 4WD composed and balanced when things get gnarly.

I have been told by guys with 3 inch lift that it will wander a bit without some mods, so I have been told. IMO better off going 2 inch coil lift with the longer shocks but fit a 30 or 40mm body lift for the extra height. Dislocation cones are fine, I have just fitted some to the back of my disco and I love them. 32" tyres are fine, but you will need to camel cut the bottom of the rear guards ;)
I have 2 inch coil lift, 2 inch body lift, 26.5 inch rear procomp shocks and dislocation cones and mine drives like new on and off the blacktop....it's a great combination :D
