When I get to 3K the engine starts to roar, sounding harsh with more vibration from the engine. It seems to pull well enough though and keeps accelerating with the harsh tone.

Any ideas what this could be? In an attempt to fix it I lubed the wastegate lever. It seemed a bit stiff, not seized. The car now revs better from about 1.5K but I still have the harshness at 3K.

I've blanked the EGR and cleaned my MAP sensor out recently. Both of which helped the car.

It's year 2000 with 119K miles.

Cheers

The vibration could be a broken engine mount or the DC uni joint could be on it;s way out.

As for the harshness, that might be the thermo fans or viscous fan cutting in, blanking the EGR does change the note of the engine though, i know mine sounds a bit deeper when you put your foot down:D

Do your thermo fans stay on after you turn the engine off??

You in the UK, there's no location in your profile, top right where your post count is.

I'd go with RedBack on the engine mounts as first choice. Check the mounts first.
