Hyraulic pump / PTO

I am building my trayfor my '64 SIIA LWB ute.

I have a Hydraulic ram and designed the tray to be a 'tipper'

What options are their for getting a PTO driven Hydraulic pump?

Are these something easily obtained / made?

A company called Powauto are generally regarded in the transport industry as the fount of all knowledge as to PTO's and pumps.

Series PTOs are about (interchangeable from Series 1 to Series 3 except Stage 1), and these could be used to drive an hydraulic pump. There is a specific hydraulic PTO that uses most of the parts for a general belt or shaft PTO, but has the pump mounted directly on it. These are rarer, but are still to be found occasionally.

Get hold of an optional equipment parts book (S2a/3) which gives full details, although you may be better fitting a shaft or belt PTO and fitting a more modern pump etc from any rural or industrial hydraulic supplier.

How about modifing a power steering pump to have a larger reservior?

Using a rover pto unit that would normally drive a front winch will work fine. make a bracket to mount the pump, support the pump front and rear if you can. Highly recommend fitting some type of flexible or rubber drive coupling between the pto unit and pump, Blackwoods can supply these the rubber components are the sacrificial part of a setup like this and are much cheaper than repairing pump drive splines.

There was a NOS rear PTO that Brian Danielson out at Land vehicle Spares sold on ebay last week. I am sure that he has more, both new and second hand.

It wouldn't take much to mount it to a hydraulic pump.

grab a PS unit from a disco then mount a pully on the back of the PTO for the tcase, take the access panel off the top of the tcase, weld a bracket that runs off of that to take the tensioner mech and PS pump which youve laid over on its side, remote the resivior to behind the seat back add a suitable belt and bobs your uncle instant tipper pump for a tilt tray series.

Hi Steve,
I work for Hoist Hydraulics in Melbourne and we import PTO,s from Spain that bolt onto the rear of the gearbox. They are a 1:1 ratio ( output revs= engine revs and they will transfer 16 Kw. with a range of bolt on pumps to suit most requirements. Owning a 2A myself, it seems to be a very simple means of getting hydraulic power. I would use it myself I have the spot reserved for my Fairey overdrive ( finally found one not subject of the national debt).
