At what intervals do you change oil and filters on a 3.9.Mine has started knocking a slight bit when hot and on a hill.It is full of oil so am thinking oil is getting a bit thin.I last serviced it about 6,000 kms ago.I thought ten would be o.k.Cheers Brett

In my Disco i use Valvoline Engine Armor and always change oil & filter every 5000klms

HPR 30 (unless you're inTassie:p)

Not original engine so have no idea of exact kms
Needs a top up but leaks a bit from rear of engine and rocker cover
I run penrite hpr 15-50 gas(approx Unsure of exact details)
i have serviced it when i bought it then at 5000 kms then 10 and know its up to 6.
i'm not in tassie although it feels like it at the moment.

In between oil changes, its down to the halfway mark on the dipstick..
You hear some rover v8's dont use any...?

My 3.9 is subject to a lot of short journeys, so it gets changed every 6 months regardless of KM travelled, as per LR recommendations.

The filter is also replaced.

Oil and filter every 5000km.

All engines use oil, it is perfectly normal.

If i change it every 5000kms i would probably use a 1ltr to 1.5ltrs:((approx)Cheers Brett

That is possibly a bit excessive, but mine is probably close to that as well. It depends on how I drive - gently means less burnt oil... Pity I almost never drive gently :twisted:.

LOL.Yeh it is leaking a bit as well but getting a little tyred.The rattles have got worse over the last 6mths sounds a bit like noisy tappets or exhaust leak(But its not leaking).Will have to drive easy but find it hard.Cheers Brett

Mines done 180,000km and I change the oil and filter every 10,000kms. I need to top it up with about half a litre in between, but it leaks so I don't know how much is burning and how much is leaking.

I run synthetic 5 - 50.

i have 204000ks on the clock. does have a slight knock when sitting on a very steep downhill grade. i change oil at 10000 ks and use XLD. USES ABOUT A LITRE BETWEEN OR LEAKS IT

HPR Gas 10 every 10,000KM with filter, no oil use that I can measure!

Every 5000kms normally, but not doing a lot of km's anymore so every 6 months. Doesn't lose much oil at all, 180,000kms. Use HPR15.
