View Full Version : Dog Neutering query?

Just had my 6 month old foxy neutered today and when I was just checking his awfully painful red looking balls (which I know is normal) I noticed the "head" of his penis was sticking out a bit and had air like sacks in it.
I have only ever had bitches so I have no idea what is normal but it doesn't look normal and he seems to be irritated by it.
Has any one seen it before or know anything about it?
I will call the vet in the morning if it is still swollen in that manner. No puss seems to be present.

Bet he's licked his scrotum to get that red and swollen and most likely he's also licked the end of his penis - randy man - and glans of penis is now swollen..... Apply some nice cool water to head of penis and if you can, work his sheath back over his penis.
Then go out and make a bucket for his head..... use an old plastic bucket that's long enough to go from his collar to beyong the end of his nose. Cut a hole in the bottom , drill some holes along bottom edge of bucket sides and attach to collar with cable ties/string/twine.

Thanks. He has been licking his penis more then scrotum which surprised me.
Now seems to be building up a bit of fluid. Will try what you said before bed.

I cannot believe that I have read this thread on a forum about cars!
No offence! Interesting stuff. I have two male Jack Russells (Well past that stage).
It's just amazing the conversations you come across on the net.
P.S. Concur with the bucket idea!

lol.
I was going to apologise for writing this on the forum but then I recalled the thread on vasectomies, had a laugh to myself and went ahead without a concern in my mind.

Sounds pretty normal, would only get worried if it stays like that for longer than 24hrs

Hi Xavier,
Does not sound normal to me. I think one of the AULROers is a vet.

The best place for veterinary advise is your local vet imho. :) What do you reckon Lucy? ;)

...and they say dogs don't understand us!
Dogs and Humans! We DO understand each other.
We both work on punishment and reward.
How do think my wife trained me to drop the pay packet on the table every Thursday night. Friday morning I always had a smile on my face!
...and, if she said to me one day "i'm gonna cut your nuts off", I would react like your mates dog!
Simple!

There are many good sites available on the WWW, but why bother with them when obviously all the decent people with all the knowledge are on this one!
Sometimes better than google!

Yeah, you're right, keep your local vet happy, and they'll go out of their way to help you. Its a relationship thing, just like any small business loyalty matters, especially with the smaller practices.
And as far as the internet goes, some of the advice I've seen is down right scary, particularly health care/veterinary advice! Its always better if you know exactly who is giving you advice, what their angle is. Forums like this though can be good, because you get a feel for who everyone is after a while, but it can be interetsing when you meet them in the real world!
