HI All,

As a lot of the WA Aulroians know if fitting out my 96 v8 Ser 1 Disco with a 4.6 and Wolf engine managment (full 4.6 timing cover and coil Packs!) So I thought I would keep a bit of a Photo Diary with pics on here as we Go.
Special Thanks have to go out to Luke and Taff for there help with this project !
We have been building up the bottom end of the 4.6 for the last 3-4 weeks and last week the Disco came off the road to have the mods completed.

(just for a start )

For people that are not aware of the existing mods here is the list all-ready done :

What is the advantage of going with a Wolf computer? Is it better tuneability?

Also, what gearbox are you mating to the engine? Stock ZF auto gearbox, or will it be strengthened?

Sounds like an awesome project. :)

Hi MAte,
Yes the main reason for wolt id tunability, dash control to know whats going on and getting rid of the fairly basic and problematic land rove ECU, Air flow etc etc

Im using the original ZF box 4.6 just bolts in place nothing else Changed to the drive line !

cheers

P.S ..... Posting an update and pics now !

ok, Engine is complete and back (awsome work from Luke and Taff.............Thanks Guys !) its all bolted back up and all compeentry fitted up.
*We have mounted the wolf computer in the New dash pod along with the hand control mounted to the face of the pod with the air suspenson gauges and sub tank fuel gauge.
*Made new bypass pipe for the spot where the MAF went before.
*Mounted the coil packs and heat transfer for shower on firewall.
*Mounted the igniters next to the start battery.
* Adapted and fitted a trigger wheel to the crank.
*Made a braket to mount the crank sensor
*We are now Re-wireing a complete new loom for everything including the New Bosch Injectors, Ignitors, Coil packs, crank sensor and all the other Wolf ECU Components.

Getting close now.

Water pump pully still needs a spacer to space out 20mm inline with other pully's !, Due to using 4.6 timing cover.

Here's a few pic's.

Fantastic pics but the color balance on your camera is awful !

Just wondering where you sourced the back shell connectors for the injectors on the new loom?

Jezz did you turn it back to a dizzy or has it got the coils still? I am seriously looking at putting a 4.6 in my old girl but I'm not to keen on converting it to a dizzy

I Picked up a 4.6 block with the 4.6 timing cover and Alloy sump :D:D I wanted to get away from Dizzy and run coil packs with the wolf ! But you can put the 4.6 in with the 3.9 timing cover and still run the normal landrover injection system or leave the Dizzy there for an oil pump and convert to coil packs !!... I opeted to run completly as an aftermarket injection system getting away from the Dizzy alltogeather ! (but it helped That I got hold of all the parts I needed with the block!)

G'day Everybody,

I have finally got the Disco almost back on the road (had 3 weeks holiday;))
just replaced a couple of oil Hose's, New Kick down cable and serviced the ZF last night and added some wiz-bang lube guard Additive (keep trannie cooler).
thanks to luke we have done an initial dyno run up and getting close to having it running right !, Had a little problem getting the extractors a bit hot!! but all in all we have finished the job !!

Plan now is to fine tune the V3 Wolf and sort out any bugs as we go ! once we have a few thousand Km's on it we will get her Dyno-d again and see what sort of specs we get.
Here is a few pics of the Engine bay now and the Dash pod with wolf hand controller and gauges fitted.

Cheers

Hi Guys,

Vid : YouTube - Mud Guts and Glory Disco (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=-r17wSivDks)

Sorry I have not checked this thread for a while, Been too busy at work and fixing up other stuff on the Disco !

Just a quick report : had her all tuned up and shining for MUD GUTS and then just hammered her all weekend !, We did well, we were 47th in the Grid and had some HUGE 40" tyre holes to contend with at the back of the field, I managed to make a start at every stage and came 15th with my baby 35's and NO BREAKAGES ! After the event I found I had a gearbox problem  found out I caused it by not running a Kick down cable :mad::mad: (run out of time !) so pulled out the Auto swapped it over only to get her back rolling and then blew a HEAD GASKET :twisted::o:mad:: It turns out that when I had the trigger wheel set up 1 tooth out in the set up and test run / dyno her I got her hotter than I should have !:twisted::twisted::twisted: Off comes the head (after a month in the corner while I had the ****s :eek:) Finaly today I have her running again with most of the problems fixed !! I am fixing the brakes and everything else that seems to be stuffed from the deep slurry of SALTY MUD from MUD GUTS !:twisted:that got into everything possible and stuffed it :(

Cheers Mate, Mainly just long NIGHTS ;) make sure u say G'Day when you pop in !Have to Give you a AULRO discount !

He Jez, Hows things, Been a while ?? call in for a chat some time !
Before Mud Guts on the DYNO she Pulled 148KW and 366nm, there is about 10deg timing more there when I re-design the crank angle sensor !, once I get her happily rolling again Mat from united is going too run her up and set up a separate ECONOMY & POWER map in the wolf, so I have a more fuel effective option when traveling !

Cheers

Spent this afternoon fixing the front brake caliper and tiding her up, gave her a polish fixed a few odds and ends and went out on the highway for a 45mins to make sure all was in order !

So far so good !:D no oil leaks and everything seemed to behave itself ! Temp was good and no PRESSURE in the cooling system !!!:D:D:D

And it still sounds good !
