Well, just got back from my 3 week Flinders trip in the old 92 Rangie and Campomatic.
We went via Broken Hill, to Quorn, then Wilpena, then Akaroola, then up the track from Arkaroola to the Strezlecki, Merty Merty, Tibooburra, then across to White Cliffs then home.
A great place to visit.
Some of the notables.
NO problems with the Rangie or camper and the ride is so good not a beer bottle broken laying on their side in the carton. Only a marmalade in the camper.
Worst road was from Cameron Corner to Tibooburra, corrugations, then extreme bulldust washouts, then rock base, all in 200 metres. The Strez and Merty Merty were better but not much.
Fuel was surprising from a low of 143.9 at Broken Hill 2 weeks ago, to 162.9 at Arkaroola a few days ago to 1.89 at Tibooburra ( yeah freight BS). (Diesel was 2.09)
Unbelievable roos around Broken Hill. There was a squelsh mark on the highway every 50 metres for a couple of hundred K into SA.

Ran into rain at Tibooburra. the road to Broken Hill was closed but the road to White Cliffs open 3 days ago. well I ran OK until 110 Ks out of White Cliffs where a cloudburst had dropped I estimate 1-2 inches over about 15Ks. Well what a drive, but the old girl soldiered through with locker on and bum puckered. I ran into a cattle B double (from One Tree Station on the BH Tib road) just after the end of the rain, and told him about it but he went on. I heard from the store at White Cliffs he had slid off, and for all I know he is still there!
Spent several hours in White Cliffs levering inches of mud from the car and camper. Gerni time tomorrow.
It was magic before the heavy rain as every wild animal for Ks went to the bitumin at the grids to drink from the pools. Saw hundreds of roos, pigs, goats, and hundreds of Apostle birds at one grid, who would not move even when I was 3 metres away. Saw 8 Wedgetails on a carcass near Cameron.
A great trip.

Sounds fantastic, very jealous :D

The rain was fairly widespread in a patchy sort of way. Mum rang yesterday and they had 16mm at the Alice. The road down towards Chambers Pillar was pretty slippery and it made the run down to Finke interesting (the race was on over the weekend)

Update on damage.
One panhard rod bush and one rear shock so far.
I am now disappointed in those Boge shocks. Only about 30K and one leaks. I wondered what the oil smell at the RH wheel was every time I stopped, as there was no seal leak. Although I guess the Strezlecki towing a camper is a big ask.
Maybe Konis are the go. Any opinions???
On the positive side I found an oil leak at the front of the motor. It was the pressure relief valve cap a bit loose.

Thats the way it is with cars, instead of buying parts to make their cars better, people spend money on making them look good.I would never again travel the outback of australia without koni or bilstein shocks.I would have loved to have gone along, outback touring is my fav thing. Pat
