With little hope of seeing any quality TV, I watched Test Drive on channel 9 yesterday. What a terrible show.

The "off road" test for the ML500 and Jeep was a joke and it was obvious (to me anyway) that Chrysler-Benz had paid to get their cars on the show.

Let's hope Oz Top Gear is better.

Hmmmm... We need more content to fill our local content obligations. How about our automotive advertisers? We should be able to put an advertorial together that will get enough revenue to be cost neutral.

We need to get this done ASAP. What about a name? "Car Show" ?? Carried ;)

The first shot of the idiot in the Merc, with a steering wheel level with the top of his head,,

either Mercedes dont have an adjustable steering column,,
or

Then the other idiot (oh yes he is) says something about everybody asking him about the best car compromise for safety/performance etc,, and guess what???
he picks a mazda,, that just happens to be on the show --

go figure--

Thanks, but I wouldn't waste the oxygen required to make the point.

The show, like a lot of the other rubbish on the commercials stations, is meant to be infotainment, but there's no "depth" to it. All feathers, no meat.

But what really upsets me is that I suspect most people who watch this show (and others like it) don't understand that they've been presented with nothing more than a sponsor-paid-for 15 minute advert, interspersed with 15 minutes of commercials, have learned nothing but probably think they did!

Sorry Paul, but you don't know what you're talking about! The "Car Show" with Glen Ridge was the worst car show ever seen.

The same as the fishing show ET - pushes Yotas and ETs holiday camp up north - shows like Drive and ET show come out of the station advertising time allowance - then there would be less ads on TV.

Same with "Creek to Coast". The Brisbane version is just advertising for various outboard and boat manufacturers.

And those road tests were just bollocks.

I actually don't mind Creek to Coast and the Great SE. At least it's obvious that all the product reviews are infomercials and half the time the manufacturer's rep is driving the boat.

If, on Test Drive, the GM of Benz was driving in the road test you'd know no one (hopefully) would take the test seriously.

At least the new series of Top Gear is on SBS tonight! Tonight they revisit the car boat theme quote: "Jeremy ditches the Toyboata for an improved homemade Nissank" Priceless viewing! :D:D

Foolishly I gave "Test Drive" another go this arvo and witnessed a riveting test drive of the 2008 Tourag TDV6.

In a breathtaking example of this car's capabilities, the host this week (what happened to the height challenged Hamster-look-alike from last week?) took the Tourag for a drive on some grass around a footy oval:eek:.

I fast-forwarded through the Santa-Fe dog drive and turned it off halfway through Ford ute test-drive-come-paid-advert.

At least 5th gear the guy towed a telegraph pole across an oval and then went back to tow the harvester.

Yea I know who you mean. I liked the big guy who used to mess around. Havn't seen it for a year and a half so that would be at least 2.5 years ago for the UK series.
