Geez makes my 18.4 L per 100km from the 3.9 towing my 650-700Kg camper up to 110Kmh, and /or on dirt/bulldust /corrugations with grids every 5-10Km look good.
But I must admit I was impressed by the Tojo 4.2 diesel that the guy from Arkaroola took us up to the Ridge view in first high with 6 people in the back. The thing just pulled at 800 revs. I do not know why he insisted on high ratio, but I guess he was bored with doing it twice a day for months.

16 litres per 100 kms on the single Turbo 4.5 V8 diesel in the Tojo sounds pretty good.
I would be happy if my Disco V8 can do that but it's more like 24-25 litres per 100 kms on premium unleaded. :(

I was amazed at the economy of the Toyo straight six turbo diesel, I filled up and after 150km the needle hadn't moved - nice!
20km later it lost power on the incline after the Hume hwy Mobil at Seymour and rolled to a stop - it had drained the sub tank dry:D. Honestly who looks at a gauge mounted between the sun visors! Certainly not an easy engine to restart either.

Isn't the offical figure 10.4 per 100?.Lets see 2.7t dry weight,4.5ltr V8,house brick areo shape.Thats achievable. Pat

A mate was going to buy the 4.5L v8 td LC for work so we had a test drive. It was a shocker. Acceleration was woeful for a so called modern diesel. Nothing like any other diesel out there in acceleration. The car does not have abs, the interior is very flimsy and cheap. I am sure its reliable - but not any more reliable than tonnes of other diesels which have a bullet proof record, and to top it off the petrol LC has similar fuel econ as the diesel! all for 65k entry. My impressions were that the car is overpriced and in the end my mate bought another make. While I am sure the 3.0L nissan would not pull more weight but unladen its much faster and easier to live with. As for LR diesels, at least you can have a good argument on fuel economy diesel vs petrol, with a TD LC you only win on torque slightly lower on the rev range.

I reckon the official figures are a bit dodgy. Who does the official ADR figures? Supposedly Holden "claim" a VY 'S' does 11 / 100km, but I've found it's always 18+ and a new set of rear tyres each trip:o

I just don't get it.The ''new'' engine is half way between a Tdi and Td5 in spec and there is a 4'' difference in front to rear track. All that for 78k on road. Pat
