View Full Version : Front dash area & diff lock switches

I've been trying to work out where abouts to place the three ARB switches in the cab (compressor, front and rear). I've been thinking of putting them in between the radio and the steering wheel, as there is a big blank area there.

However I believe that there's a steel plate or insert halfway in there which would make it difficult. Has anyone here fitted switches in this area before? And if so, would you mind sending some advice as to how you did the job?

Cheers
Chris

Chris,
Here are a couple of photos of my diff lock buttons.

I just drilled a big hole and used my die grinder to grind it out to the shape required. I also used the ARB switch mounting plate, which I cut the tab off for the mounting screws and drilled a couple of holes in it to run some screws through. The metal plate running through the dash is actually good, as that means that the nuts on the back of the mounting screws shouldn't pull through.

Thankyou - that's exactly where I'm looking at mounting the switches - short of going with the mud console which I'm looking at.

Cheers
Chris

Get yourself one of these from www.mud.uk (http://www.mud.uk) about $160 delivered but excellent steel construction.

I had actually cleaned mine as not to make the new console stand out like dogs balls...air freshener too, almost made me feel like a Disco driver.....:p

It would have been easier to just throw the new console on the ground and kick some dirt on it.

Have to agree with you there - although anyone that's seen my old girl knows that the pics on this thread show vehicles cleaner than mine

hiline,

Yes I am happy with the arrangement. I only have a rear locker switch at the mo but the other two slots are waiting, one for the front and the other for the compressor. I currently have my compressor on another switch. For all the good that does me.....at the mo the compressor is cactus. Want to get an endless air type of arrangement so have not replaced the lectriquery one :(

hey mate i got a couple of switches as well that used to be mounted on a cubby box where the middle seat used to be. i put the seat back in to fit an extra person in (ive got a 2 door 110). and now have nowhere to mount them, my compressor is fitted behind the pasenger seat and the switches attached to that. i worked out ill be able to get the wires to where the fuse box is, by running them under the middle seat and then along under the soundproofing on the gearbox cover. but how did u get the wires to come out in that little alcove?

Thanks for ur help

Jock
