ABS pump running time?

On my `93 se the ABS pump seems to run for longer than ever before it cuts out and the dashboard warning light is extinguished. It now takes 30+ seconds in the morning for it to get up pressure. Appart from that all seems normal. Should I be concerned?

Just wanted to bump this to the top again as I have had no replies. Could someone time their pump so I know what is normal. I was thinking that mabe a fluid renew might be in order, what do you think. All I can find out is that if the Gas Sphere goes faulty the pump only runs for a few seconds, relay or pressure switch faults cause the pump to not run or run non stop. I have found no info on the pump wearing and becoming slow to get up pressure.

The book gives 20 secs , saw it the other day but don`t remember if there were any other words with the 20 secs , ie around about more than less than .

I`ll have another look and get back if you don`t find out in the meantime .

The light you mention is it the brake warning light ( the red one , parkbrake , pads etc , not the ABS light ) and do you mean it stays on for 30 secs ?

Batterys on the charger so can`t time it at present so get back to you on that also if no-one else does .

Edit = I just remembered that 93 models had 2 different ABS ECUs the only info that i may have would relate to the updated ECU and this is the reason i queried the warning light time .

My pump rounds for around 20secs. I have noticed if you start the car as soon as you turn the igntion on is primes faster (possibly due to the higher voltage when the cars running)

I want to flush and bleed my brakes system but have heard some horror stories about dramas with ABS systems after flushing the system.

Thanks for the replies. Just to clarify, the light in question is the Handbrake warning light. This illuminates on start up and will stay on until there is sufficient pressure in the ABS system, the manual states "do not dive until it is extinguished". (leaving the hand brake on will cause it to stay lit). The brake pad low wear indicator is the warning light above on the binacle. The light actually goes out before the pump stops running.
If anyone is interested my car has been butchered and the ABS / traction control ECU and plug on the ABS/Traction manifold have been unplugged. The brakes still work fine but without ABS/traction control.

I have just finished trawling through the threads on RR.net (thanks for the link) and from the info I have read it points to the Accumalator Sphere. Apparently once pressurised it should hold enough charge for 4 to 5 braking events before the pump cycles again. My pump kicks in after one press of the pedal. I am now on the hunt for a second hand Sphere.

I want to flush and bleed my brakes system but have heard some horror stories about dramas with ABS systems after flushing the system.

Well I finally got around to changing the sphere with a used one and giving the system a full flush/bleed following the correct procedure. The pump running time has reduced but still runs for 25 seconds. The brake pedal feel has improved greatly and the brakes feel sharper. I think the flush and bleed would have the same effect without the sphere. I now am thinking the pump must be getting a bit tired.
