Got up this morning and decided "hmm I'd like to fix that crappy auto selector" as it was starting to irritate me.

Checked the rimmerbros price for a new BTR9926LNF, 68 gbp. Rang a dealer and new price was ~ $220:eek:. Decided at this point "I'll take a break from study and drive (nearest to furthest) to FWDs, Lance Dixon, Range Rov, AMV, Ritters until I get one", full well knowing I was likely to return home empty handed. Turned up at FWD first, and amazingly they had a used one - dirty but in GC - 5.5 times cheaper than a new one:cool:.

Only difference was a slight change in the "font". (Does anyone know why? ). Just needs a bit of autoglym on it.

Put it all back together and took a test drive - big improvement, reaches full boost by 900 rpm, much quieter and managed another 250 k from a tank of diesel. I'm happy.

And no carbon fibre to be seen.

How do they do it?

And the "still has a sense of humour" award goes to Simon:D

In other words I was being facetious in light of the multitude of posts lately that seem to contain the terms "spooling up faster" and "an extra 100k per tank" and other claims of unworldly performance with very little logical evidence:)

Now on a serious point - could someone with a late 97/98 Disco photo their shifter so I can see what "font" it has? pretty please

theres the front of my shift is that what you are after.....

edit: woops i see you wanted late 97/98 sorry my'n is a 96.....not that i see what the difference would be as i thought the only changes where after 93 with the 300tdi (major change) and after 96 (not so major face lift)

Thanks dullbird, looks like all the 95 onwards Disco's have that type.

How's this though?
BTR9926LNF - D1 '95-'99 auto lever surround 68.06 GBP (rimmerbros)
BTR9924LNF - RR 1995 only (softdash) auto lever surround 36.31 GBP (rimmerbros)

They are the bloody same!! (except the RR has the posh font - double win:D)

Since these are easy to tear/break/melt, I hope that saves someone a bit of money!

I like the position of that UHF head unit.

Not a hijack, just a good idea.
