Hi all, I just picked up another SWB SIII, I only really wanted the tub, but the guy wouldn't sell the tub without me taking the rest... I don't know much about it yet, but does it look like a military one to you; its got the axle protectors welded on, plus the bonnet clips, and on whats left of the dash its got black out switches (see pic)?

mm, that looks like a series 3 army blackout light panel, and gauges, but to our knowledge the army never had any SWB series 3's. rumours about that some were tested, but nothing official that we can find. I'm guessing that it is a hybrid of bits maybe?

The chassis number gives me this;
903 Model: Land Rover, Series III
Body type: Basic
Wheel base: 88in
Engine: petrol
Model years: 1972-1979
Destination: Completely knocked down (CKD), right-hand drive (RHD)
36937 Serial number
A Design: Unmodified
I'll take a few more pics and post them, but yes, could be combined from bits taken from all over the place! Just a quick look tells me that the firewall forward has different paint to the tub. The front axel has the protective bar welded to it (the rear axel has been rebuilt, but doesn't have the protective bar), the bonnet has the army style clips to hold it down. The chassis is a little odd too (to my limited experience) and doesn't look like the other Series III chassis I have; especially the back cross member is a flat piece of steel on the 'new' SWB...

G'day All, Pix are whats needed, could be something that a previous owner has modified to suit their needs at the time, is it a 6 cyl bulkhead or has the B/out panel just been added? anyway pix will tell all cheers Dennis:wasntme:

Pretty sure that the front from the firewall forward is from a different vehicle to the tub/rear... still need to find time to get some shots for you guys; but it looks like a bitsa to me!

Finally got some shots, as you can see the front axle has a guard welded on, but the rear one doesn't. It's a real mess, waste of money really, but I needed the tub, unfortunately he wouldn't let me just take that part...
Incidentally, if you look closely at the power-take off hole in the front cross member you may notice that its actually a piece of plastic piping cut and glued into the cross member then painted black!

Now that's a bitza and a half!
I think the rear member is a home jobbie, and by the look of it he couldn't be bothered putting the hinge flanges for the tailgate back on so he made it a swinging half-door. It is actually a wagon with a pickup cab on it but not the correct transom.
Thats just the stuff that I can pick up - I'm sure those of you a bit more familiar with the IIIs could find many more!
Nonetheless, should be a few bits on it you could flog to recover your costs. :)
